I have this friend that I talk to and somedays he is my best friend,then the next day he will say hurtful things to me.Then 2 days later he said hes been joking all that time and hope I wasnt taking it seriously.Well now hes being argumentative and I dont know if hes just kidding or if he really means it.Now its hard for me to tell if he is kidding or when he really means it.

Friends don't say hurtful & mean things to each other under the pretext of "just kidding". He doesn't sound like a very good friend to me at all.
