It's been nearly three months since my now ex-gf of two years left me. No wrongdoing on either end but she felt like she needed to focus on her career. She is one year older than me and started working full time (50 hour weeks) this past May after graduation. I'm in my senior year of college. I currently attend school in the state of Illinois but I will be working in NYC this coming January. I will be living with my parents in NJ because NYC rent is too expensive and this is only a three month internship. I will most likely get my own place in NYC once I start working full time. I have been going out a couple of times a week with my guy friends here in college but I realize the bars are not exactly the ideal place to meet the relationship type girl.

It just hit me a couple of weeks ago that I'll probably never see 90% of the people I've met here in college which is kind of a depressing thought for me. 95% of the people I've met here in Illinois are all working in Chicago. I only kept in contact with a handful of people from high school which is 100% my fault and I realize that. I guess my question is two sided. How do I go about establishing my social circle in a big city like NYC? I am going to be working 60 hour weeks so I am definitely going to say "yes" to any work related social event if there are any. But outside of work, where is a good place to meet people? How have your experiences been if you've moved to a new city? If you're from the NYC area, how is the dating there? Thank you for the help LSers!!

Worry about doing well in your internship and finding a relationship later. It sounds like a short internship anyway. Down the road, provided you are living at your folks, do things locally in your area to meet people, NYC is not the place to commute into and find a relationship. Women will nix you there for living in the wrong part of Manhattan, let alone Jersey.
