sweetjasmine Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 the cover of all the women's magazines To state the obvious, these photos are heavily edited, often beyond recognition. Any muscle tone or cellulite is easily airbrushed, and hips, ribs, thighs, arms, are stretched or thinned depending on the look. When it's an athlete, they tend to highlight muscle tone instead of smooth it out. Judging those celebrity bodies based on cover shots doesn't help too much. They're not exactly honest, natural photos. By the way, you mentioned Kristen Stewart. Is this the cover?: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/18/kristen-stewarts-photosho_n_1017612.html She's missing an arm. Now, softening up and getting rid of muscle tone is one thing, but is amputation really necessary? For some interesting before-and-afters of professional shots, there's this one retoucher called Iwanex. Google them, and check out the portfolio. The photos of Penelope Cruz, Eva Longoria, and Beyonce are particularly interesting.
thatone Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 That girl isn't muscular at all. In fact, she's bordering on skinny fat. She's soft. soft is a good thing.
snug.bunny Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Guys... which girl would you find more attractive? 1. Average-sized but muscular. Works out a lot, eats enough (healthy food) not to be thin 2. Thin girl who neither eats nor moves Are muscles sexy on women? "Average-sized but muscular". Would that be like Alison Sweeney? Someone like Jessica Biel, I don't find "overly muscular", she's extremely fit and her body frame is slender yet muscular/sporty/broad/athletic. I think if a woman builds too much muscle, it tends to have a "masculine appearance", and if her frame is naturally large with broad shoulders/back, I think that's what throws men off. "A thin girl who neither eats nor moves". Wouldn't she be considered anorexic if she didn't eat? Or, she could be someone who watches what she eats and doesn't need to exercise in order to maintain her thin weight. Or thin/skinny but watches what she eats and exercises. Someone like Victoria Beckham, is thin but also toned. She does a massive amount of cardio/yoga/pilates and follows a very strict diet consisting of fruits/veggie/fish/sushi.
Untouchable_Fire Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Guys... which girl would you find more attractive? 1. Average-sized but muscular. Works out a lot, eats enough (healthy food) not to be thin 2. Thin girl who neither eats nor moves Are muscles sexy on women? Ok... I think that my opinion on this should be very good because I've dated women on both ends of this spectrum. The most stick skinny girl I dated was trying to make a career as a fashion model. I eventually found her to be very shallow and this weird combination of both vain and insecure. Additionally she was not good in bed. I think part of that had to do with her being so skinny. I vaguely remember some positions hurt because there was nothing but bone. 2 Years later I dated a girl that was a semi-pro weightlifter. Her arms were almost as big as mine and that was a turn-off. Also she walked like a man. However, she had a great heart, a good personality, very smart, and was a complete freak in the bedroom. She was actually a bit insecure about how people perceived her body build. So, having been with both extremes... I'm going for option 2.

The pix posted earlier of Jessica Biel were obviously airbrushed, so I think it's an apple-to-apple comparison. I do think that was the Kristen Stewart cover I saw. I wasn't looking at her arms. Sorry. Good line from the link in the quoted post: Inside the pages of Glamour, however, Stewart gives some great relationship advice: "Don't be an *******," she says. That's my advice. Don't be mean. Don't take sh*t. Dont settle," she said.
sweetjasmine Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I wasn't intending to start any sort of gender or cultural war. Hey, me neither. I just think you can't really determine how toned or soft or slim or thick someone is if we're looking at heavily processed photos that have been manipulated to look a certain way. The pix posted earlier of Jessica Biel were obviously airbrushed, so I think it's an apple-to-apple comparison. Yeah, but in the real world, we're looking at oranges instead. I do think that was the Kristen Stewart cover I saw. I wasn't looking at her arms. Sorry. Neither was their editor, apparently.
allina Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 In my experience, there are 3 features men dislike most on a woman, a gut, wide shoulders and a masculine jaw. I think that in this thread when men are saying that a woman is too buff they are reacting to women with wide, big shoulders, not the overall body composition.
blueskyday Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Allina, i think that must be true! I am often complimented by men on my shoulders, flat tummy and narrow little chin...which always strikes me as funny. Guess it's like how a lot of women like broad shoulders and a wide jaw on a guy. Very masculine features.

She is nowhere on my list of celebrity crushes, and I've never understood why some men think she is particularly attractive (though she's prettier than 98% of the women I've ever met in real life). Why are you being so combative?
sweetjasmine Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Why are you being so combative? ? I'm not and don't see where you would get that from. Nevermind, then.
