El Brujo Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I got a notification a couple of days ago that a Meetup group named Conscious Dating was going bye-bye unless someone new stepped up to become organizer... I have prior experience with running and re-structuring a Meetup group, so I checked it out to see what I can do with it. Well, I looked it up and it said the group has over a hundred people in it... I don't know what "Conscious Dating" is supposed to be, but whatever the group did before I came along, it sounds kind of New-Age-y. But the group's mission said something about new paradigm shifts in dating, so I thought hey, this is right up my alley... what better way to do my part to fix the broken mess dating has become? This is a chance for me to share the lessons I learned from all those dating coaches who are now happily married but charge huge fees for the advice that worked for them (plus, they're all women). I'm looking forward to this. It's a chance to offer singles an alternative to the bar scene, and alcohol-centered singles Meetup groups come a dime a dozen. I happen to know that we non-drinkers get lonely too, so right now I feel like the Sorcerer's Apprentice who has just got hold of the boss' book of magic tricks. Use it don't abuse it, right?
Cee Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Have fun with that. I inherited a meetup group and enjoyed it, but it's a lot of work. The group's membership was largely inactive although it usually attracted new people. After six months of it, I got exhausted and gave up. I love meetups by the way. I met my boyfriend at a weekly meetup, but wasn't connected to meetup.com. I hope you post some stories. Getting a group of singles together is bound to be interesting.

I think it must be the opposite of "unconscious dating", so you don't need that bottle of chloroform.
Disillusioned Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I think it must be the opposite of "unconscious dating", so you don't need that bottle of chloroform. ...or, for that matter, that hip flask full of Everclear.
