Buttercup84 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Wilsonx and many others have been raving on about " the power of now " . I actually borrowed it from my sister months ago , but left it at my old house were I lived with my ex . Awesome . So is it really that good ? I'm not religious , and I am sceptical about these king of books . But I need anything to just change my mindset . Am thinking of buying it next week . Thanks
TheDovic Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I bought it last night and as I have a Kindle it came directly. I've read the first chapter and am so excited about reading the rest of it!!! I'm glad Wilsonx recommended it to me as it makes a lot of sense.
wilsonx Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I will be honest, I am not religious at all. Never have been, never will be. There are some religious aspects in there and the author does try to turn what in essence is mindfullness into his own belief on what GOD is. He uses quotes about the bible and Buddhism alot. I was skeptical at first, but I read the reviews and was impressed. You know if there are 900 5star reviews on amazon, I assume it was worth reading. Its #1 in 2 categories and #2 in another. If you think about the logic behind just the title alone, "The Power of Now" the author has a point right there alone. If you are focused and can keep your focus on Now, you aren't thinking about the past or the future, which in turn stops the suffering. Like anything it takes time and practice to put into your routine. You lose nothing by trying it. I have found it an effective way to cope and I am only suggesting it to others if they cant find their own way.
denise_xo Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Tolle's books aren't really my cup of tea, but I think the basic idea has a lot of merit.
LelouchIsZero Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 "Man's search for meaning" by Viktor Frankl is a really nice book, and I'm sure PelicanPete & Graceful would both recommend it. I've also been reading "7 habits of highly effective people" by Stephen Covey, which so far has been pretty good too.
TheDovic Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 OK, so I've read another bit and this book is blowing my mind (and I'm observing this happening lol...wee inside joke)!!! I'm easily excited though so I'll keep you all updated
