found_it_myself Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I have noticed a significant change in the appearance and feel of my breasts since losing 40 lbs - I am a 20-year-old female who lost this weight due to a change in diet but I have not backed it up with exercise. (But I am starting a new exercise plan this week!) After losing weight, I have noticed that my previously full and perky C-cup breasts have diminished in such a way that it seems like they've deflated. I understand that loss of a cup size is normal with weight loss, and they have dropped to a B-cup, but my concern is that they now seem like saggy, almost-empty sacks. Bras do not fit me anymore. The fact that my breasts have shrunk does not bother me, but I feel uncomfortable and unattractive with their odd appearance and feel. I'm desperately hoping that exercise will help lift and define my chest. Does anyone have any explanations or advice? Any help would be enormously appreciated, thanks!
FitChick Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Breasts are mostly fat so when you lost the fat, they shrank. Exercise will build the muscles underneath and life what you have, but you won't have the same breasts as before. Lots of female fitness instructors and body builders get implants because they have very little body fat. For now, try exercise and see what happens.
carhill Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Over what period of time did the weight loss occur? With a combination of exercise and a more training-oriented diet, you may find some recovery in your natural shape. Give it a few months. Be sure to wear a sports bra while training.

Not sure if the exercise will get them back to perky. Having substantial fat loss is really akin to what pregnant women go through with lactation. Once they get bigger for a period of time, then shrink again to a degree they're never really the same again. Of course this is me making a guess and I could be totally wrong, but I can't imagine the underlying muscle tissue ( which isn't really present in the breasts) have any bearing on perkiness.
FitChick Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 It won't make them perky but might lift them an inch.
Author found_it_myself Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Technically I am currently underweight. I lost the weight quickly, in about a month due to loss of appetite. I am hoping that with exercise and a healthy diet, I can gain back weight and get fit in order to change my body to something closer to what it was previously. I'm just trying to get some realistic expectations -- will my breasts never really resemble their old selves? Did the rapid stretching and shrinking just mess them up beyond repair? I hope not!
