What's the longest time someone has still had feelings for an ex?

OK so I have read stories here of people still pining for an ex two or even three years after they dumped them. These people are unable to move on for a vaiety of reasons. But has anyone still not gotten over someone five, even ten years later or perhaps longer still? I know that meeting someone new helps people move on probably more than anything else but not everyone is lucky enough to meet someone they want to start a relationship with.

 

Are there any sad tales of people still feeling broken many, many years later? Do some people long to get back with an ex from years ago? Have these people simply become obsessive and ruined any chance in the future of happiness as they are fixated on an ex who dumped them?

Yes. I was madly love with an ex for seven years after he dumped me.....and I dated a bit and even married (and divorced) in the course of those seven years.

Exactly 10 years ago when I was 19, I broke up with my first love. She came home from out of town with a new guy. I went to her house, put my foot in the door, and called him to come out. LOL! He didn't. But I couldn't move on for a long time. Probably a full year or more. We saw each other again 3 years after the BU when I went to visit her. Almost had sex and everything. We ended up becoming really good friends and I supported her for a very long time with all of her endeavors. She got married and had children. Very happy for her.
