FitChick Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I am looking for a dial around service, 10-10-_ _ _. I googled and found ones that are no longer active and ones that seem quite expensive with minimum monthly fees. Can anyone recommend one they like?
carhill Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 What country pairs? I usually use Skype when I'm overseas, as most locales I visit have internet access. It works great and prices are reasonable. I paid around 2.5 cents per minute with a 5 cent connection fee the last time I was in Singapore, as an example, when calling U.S. landlines and mobiles. I used to use dial-around services back in the 90's when I was calling the CIS regularly but found the logistics and connections to be variable. For critical communications I defaulted to ATT and the attendant expensive rates. IMO, it was worth it. For a non-VOIP option, try nobelcom; some of my friends who still pursue CIS ladies recommend it for that part of the world.
Author FitChick Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 onesuite is pretty good. The price seems right -- 2 cents -- but I'll have to read the website thoroughly. There used to be one but I think it was calling from the UK to the US only that was amazingly only 4 pence per CALL and your call could last for hours.
wild_urge Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 you mean the ones that make phone calls from your computer ? JustVoip is really cheap, it depends on the country, but again, it's really cheap and the quality is not bad at all.
Author FitChick Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 No, it was a phone service for landline and mobile. I don't want to talk on my computer, which is practically obsolete and on its last legs. I actually like talking the way Alexander Graham Bell intended -- on a phone that is connected to the wall.
Ariadne Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Have you ever tried phone cards? You can get 2 dollar ones that let you talk for 45 mins to anywhere in the world practically. They sell them in 7 eleven, etc and there are plenty to choose from. You can call from your cell phone and they work just the same, you'll pay for a local call in your cell phone.
Vitai Slade Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I'll tell you what worked for me. It's a bit of an odd way to go about it, but when I was in a LDR, it worked. If you have an Xbox 360 with Xbox Live, just jump online and have the other person jump online too. Jump into a party chat or voice chat and it's completely free. Talk all you want with no fees, no international rates, nothing.
123321 Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Skype lets me call the US unlimited for $3 a month, seems reasonable. They have other plans available for other needs.
Author FitChick Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 I don't like Skype. Someone at work told me about Google but I have to research it. Anyone have any experience with that?
123321 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I don't like Skype. Someone at work told me about Google but I have to research it. Anyone have any experience with that? What's not to like? I install it on my cell phone, scroll to the contact I want to call, press call, the phone now asks whether to use the cellular dialer or Skype, I press Skype, talk. The voice quality is actually better than the cell service.
