ThsAmericanLife Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 The other thread about favorite music got me thinking about mythical characters... So much of music/movies are based on timeless themes. Going through people's music choices got me thinking about mythical representations of our personalities. Real or imagined A few choices for myself... Athena - Goddess of Wisdom. I like the fact that she gave Zeus headaches http://www.pantheon.org/articles/a/athena.html Freyja - Norse goddess of love/fertility/war/death. Queen of the Valkyries http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freyja
laotzu Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Janus, only. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janus
D-Lish Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I'd be the goddess Freya, from the Norse religion. She represents love and beauty, but is also a warrior goddess known for her great wisdom.
xoxoDaniellexoxo Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Darn D and you took mine! lol Freya and the Valkyries could kick butt, however I will name a couple more for originality. Artmeis: Goddess of wild animals and wilderness Vor: Nordic Goddess of wisdom Hlin: Nordic Goddess of compassion and protection Eir: Nordic Goddess of healing they all are parts of what I do mixed into one!

I took mythology of the world and LOVED it sooo much fun!! Though when it came to drawing one of the gods I failed lol I do stick people!
Dust Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I'll be Kratos from the God of War games. If not him I guess Zeus! You know I'd be going around spawning half god children with the women of earth.
OnyxSnowfall Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) Kali :lmao: - the goddess of Time and Change (Death) --- although Vör was interesting to learn about! Edited October 10, 2011 by OnyxSnowfall
mike111 Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 None. I am nobody. I know it. Happy with that fact. And life is ok give kindness and caring to others and ye shall receive no gods, no goddesses, no ego, no anything mike
Nexus One Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) Paris. He wasn't a god, but he had the opportunity to transcend all of them, i.e. the Olympians. He got to marry the most beautiful woman of the world, Helen(a) of Troy. The story of how that happened is called "The Judgement Of Paris". In the story all the Gods gathered to celebrate. At the celebration one god was not invited, Eris, goddess of discord, she tended to create trouble. Eris was pissed off that she wasn't invited, so she infiltrated into the celebration/gathering of the gods and rolled a golden apple into the divine crowd. On the apple a text was carved that said "for the most beautiful". Hera, Athena and Aphrodite claimed the apple. Hera was goddess of marriage and wife of Zeus, Athena was goddess of wisdom and Aphrodite was the goddess of beauty. Zeus, clever as he was didn't make the decision to give the apple to any of the goddesses himself. Instead he descended down to earth and gave the apple to Paris and told him to make the judgement. Paris was a young man, he was beautiful, intelligent and one of his other roles was "the protector of men". However while Paris was trying to make his judgement the three goddesses sneaked up to him in secret and offered him bribes in exchange for the apple. Hera offered him to become the most powerful king ever. Athena offered him wisdom beyond that of the gods. And Aphrodite offered him the most beautiful woman of the world. Paris chose to give the apple to Aphrodite. In exchange Aphrodite gave him Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman of the world, demi-god born of Zeus and the queen of Sparta. There was however a problem. Many men wanted Helen(a), not only was she the most beautiful, she was also the (step)daughter of the king and queen of Sparta. Except Paris was the one who got her. So the empires of Greece went to war with each other over her. Paris also had to go into battle and had to fight Achilles, a man thought to be immortal. However Paris managed to kill Achilles by hitting his one week spot, his heel. He managed to do so with an arrow guided by Athena. Had I been Paris, I would have cut the apple in three and gave a piece to each of the three Goddesses, allowing me to get it all. While I like the fact that Paris got to marry the most beautiful woman of the world and that he was the protector of men, I don't like that he was basically at the root of the Trojan war. I myself wouldn't ever want to cause a war, neither would I have wanted to go to war and kill. So I'd want all of the positives, but none of the negatives if you catch my drift. thatone Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 since i'm sitting home resting an injured leg, achilles.
xoxoDaniellexoxo Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 since i'm sitting home resting an injured leg, achilles. My achilles tendon never grew fully so it is my one weak spot, guess I am kinda like him too!
El Brujo Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I'd be Prometheus... stealing fire from the gods, giving it to mortals, and catching hell for it.
OnyxSnowfall Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I recant Kali --- I would be Odin  Who needs two eyes anyway? ... and Nexus, I dunno about Paris -.- ... really, Paris?!?
Nexus One Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 since i'm sitting home resting an injured leg, achilles. Better watch out for me then.
Nexus One Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 ... and Nexus, I dunno about Paris -.- ... really, Paris?!? What's wrong with Paris?
OnyxSnowfall Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) What's wrong with Paris? Philoctetes owns you (at least in some tellings). And you scorned your former lover, Oenone For a wife that gets with your brother after you die Until he dies, too Edited October 10, 2011 by OnyxSnowfall

Nearly all gods and mythical figures have negatives though. The Olympian gods killed their parents for example, the Titans.

And you scorned your former lover, Oenone For a wife that gets with your brother after you die Until he dies, too HAHAHA!!! I was thinking the exact same thing!!!!!!! For the most part all the gods and goddesses or even some higher mortals had messed up relationships be it cheating, sleeping with your brother, getting caught ect!

The Olympian gods killed their parents for example, the Titans. And the Titans killed off the original entities, their lives are like a twisted CSI or criminal minds episode, I just would rather be a unicorn or something dorky like that!!!
Nexus One Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) I never cheated. You guys are making me second guess my decision about wanting to be Paris. I like that. Can I settle for just marrying the most beautiful woman of the world and being wiser than the gods and being the most powerful king ever that would bring peace among men? As the Olympians were all the children of the Titans, they...well lets just say the divine genetic pool wasn't particularly one of great variation. Zeus though was a player, Hera was justified to be pissed. She kept the marriage together though, being the goddess of marriage and all. I guess that came in convenient.

Can I settle for just marrying the most beautiful woman of the world and being wiser than the gods and being the most powerful king ever that would bring peace among men? You totally left Oenone for someone that was "hotter" --- then she was spiteful and left you to die, rather than healing you --- but then she felt horrible and killed herself when she learned of your true death. Your shallowness drove her to suicide!! Wtf! The beauty of your wife couldn't save you, and her pleading with Oenone to heal you probably wasn't the best move on her part either :B --- she should have sent some kind of messenger instead... or begged elsewhere =x Paris wanted only the good too --- he may have gotten it, if he chose wisdom instead of beauty Edited October 10, 2011 by OnyxSnowfall
