The one to ten game: I pick out a guy, you rate him. Then, you pick out a girl and I'll rate her.

I've played this game many times with women. Typically, we'll play the game in a "game face" environment, for example, a social event, such as a MLB Baseball Game, or in a bar, or at a concert. What I'm saying, is, this isn't something we ever play while in line at the DMV.

Consistently, I find 80%, or so, of women I rate to be in the 7+ rating range. Maybe not quite that high, but least a solid 70%, no question.

Consistently, 80% of men are rated less than 7. Over the years, probably more like 90% in all honesty. Very few guys get the "He's hot" comment based on looks. And ALWAYS try to pick out what I think is the best looking guy in the venue for her to rate.

Ladies, would you agree with my informal poll results? Are men, as a group, not that visually attractive?

To be fair, I think that there are more resources for women to improve their looks than there are for men to improve theirs.

Yes, and women as a whole are more concerned about their looks and spend more time and money on them.

I mean, even if men were somehow convinced that spending 5 hours at a salon to style their hair, and wearing corsets and high heels would make them more desirable to women, I sincerely doubt they would do it.

Agree Elswyth. I think those attitudes are supported by society in general, which encourages men to be presentable but not invest too much time on their appearance.

Are you trying to show that women are overly picky, shallow, and can never be satisfied even if the guy is as attractive as an A-list Hollywood star?

Because, even though I know this sounds pretty narrow and shallow, I hardly see extremely good-looking, A-list movie star guys walking around my city, but I see a lot of beautiful, A-list women around. If I am guilty of being an overly picky and shallow woman, then so be it. I am just giving my observations here:

I often see women who are well dressed (trendy clothes, heels, etc.), fit and slender (probably due to the popularity of yoga and fitness exercises here), with beautiful faces and hair done up. The men, on the other hand, often just wear hoodies and jeans, sometimes a raincoat, with a backpack. They often just cut their hair short, no style really. Their bodies aren't that fit either, not toned or muscular, just average and sometimes lanky. I find the only guys that do actually care about their appearance tend to be the hipster type who wear skinny jeans, have multi-coloured hair, and wear weird, vintage shirts. Really, I am just reporting what I see on the streets in my city.

Granted, I have heard that my city is one of the worst dressed (which looking at the women, you would not think so), but seriously, the guys aren't so hot that everything else would be compensated.

Why'd you focus your question at women? What is the point also? Every one already knows women are hotter then men. Being a man is more about power.

You should play this game in Walmart at 2am. If you still find 80% of the women to be 7+ then you should get your eyes tested.

I've known women who admired how women looked more than men, and these were heterosexual women.

I think a lot of it is because of how the media has pushed "beauty" as a notion on women. Look at how many magazines out there push female beauty over male beauty? Even GQ lately has been showing more women on the cover.

It's natural. Women, who mainly read these magazines, have been pushed and pushed on the ideas of physical perfection and beauty. They've been pushed to be hyper-critical.

Men, on the other hand, have been told since Women's Lib that we're all shallow and we shouldn't judge a woman on her looks. So that's part of why men seem more open on the looks scale, not to mention the vast amount of men who race rejection over success with women. You combine those and it's why a lot of men did "set the bar lower" (although I don't look at it as a bad thing).

I'm not saying EVERYONE fits this next stereotype I'm about to say, but you ever notice how men nowadays seem more willing to date a variety of women, while it seems women are very very quick to find 1000 meaningless reasons why they should NOT date a guy?

Thanks for the responses everyone. This pretty much confirms what I had been thinking.

Something to note, and it's just something I've noticed. The "he's hot" comment always goes to the gym rat guys. I mean, you can tell they work out, they're lean and very muscled. I guess body fat is unattractive on men as well as women.

Yes, a well groomed guy can get some good ratings on the 1 to 10 scale, but the "he's hot" guys are gym rats and well groomed. Just something I've noticed over the years.

You guess?!!! Body fat on men is MORE unattractive than on women. Women are supposed to have some body fat which makes their skin softer and just more womanly.

And yes, only guys who have a lean and toned body are hot to me.

That goes either way. Look how many times we men have come down on fat women and even larger women who try the "average" or "curvy" moniker, when they are still BBW.

IMHO, women have just as much right to condemn fat men as much as we men condemn fat women.

It does go to show though how much hitting the gym, even to go from "skinny fat" to "athletic" can do wonders not only for a man's confidence, but how women will look at him.
