bac Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 I had a date with an attactive guy in 40s from a small town in Switzerland. We had the only one romantic and wonderful date and he went back to his country. He was very romantic, intelligent, creative, respectful, but his English was very poor. He speaks French. I can not speak French. There was no sex but I kissed him once in his cheek. After that, he is emailing me often. He has even mentioned in his emails that he is in love with me and wants to come back to spend several days with me. I wonder if it is normal for guys from Switzeland to behave so romantic? Is it how they typically behave if they want to date/have sex with women?
oaks Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 In love after 1 date... you said his English was poor, so perhaps he doesn't know the subtleties of how to say "I like you a lot", or he's spent too much time high up in the Alps where the air is thin. Time to get yourself some French lessons!

Dating in America is more cut and dry and most folks are taught to not be romantic or to act like a gentleman.

Time to get yourself some French lessons! Yes, he lives somewhere in the Alps:laugh: He seems to be a gentleman. He emailed me about love in French and I have translated that by myself. But, I do not think that words 'love' and 'like' are the same in French.
yessy21 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Awwwww.....He seems extremely sweet... J' tame (i think thats how it goes) lol... ur sooo luckyyy.
Pierre Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 In some circles in the USA saying "I Love You" is considered in poor taste or a red flag if said too soon.
Pierre Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Yes it is. And by the way, did you know that all Swiss men behave in the exact same way? They are like clones of each other... American white males are of European descent so maybe they also behave the same way.:laugh:

Pierre Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 I hope not because i was married one of them. He had never said me 'I love you'. I am sorry to hear that. However, there are some old threads about how it is not cool to say ILY. Stupid stuff if you ask me.
grkBoy Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Europeans just handle themselves better. Many men aren't afraid to be romantic or emotional, and most women aren't walking around with a long laundry list of "must haves" for a guy to date her. Plus a lot of those women aren't sitting there believing they can land a perfect 10 who is wealthy and will commit 100% to her. I'm not saying "losers" or "doormats" have a sure deal, but it's amazing how more realistic and open-minded Europeans are about dating and love. They're not so scared of it all, and not hung up on loads of silly "rules".
