HappyPanda Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Im not sure if this has been discussed yet, so forgive me if that may be... But, I consider you fellow LoveShackers to be an intellectual and interesting group, so Im curious as to people's stance on Mexico City's plan to create an optional 2 year marriage "clause" http://edition.cnn.com/2011/10/03/world/americas/mexico-2-year-marriages/ Now, it merely is nothing more than a prenuptial, as far as Ive read... but the fact that there is a definitive shelf live to 'opt out' of these marriages, doesnt really sit well with me... I think that discussing what may be, if a couple cant work things out (especially if there is children involved) is a reasonable and perhaps necessary conversation... but to draw up a contract? Where's the love? Im not religious per say, but to me, marriage means for better or for worse... not for better, or 25 months. Thoughts?
Pasttense Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Mexico is 91% Catholic, and the Catholic Church is very negative about divorce. So I think the proposal is simply a reaction to difficult divorce laws in Mexico and of little relevance to the United States where divorce is much easier.
