What are the songs you feel best describe you? Your personality? What motivates you? Marks a turning point in your life?

Pretty much anything which explodes out of Angus Young's guitar, but I markedly remember listening to the 'Highway to Hell' cassette on the then new Sony Walkman back in 1979-80 just prior to each round at the race track to 'get into the mood'. It became part of my racing 'ritual'.

That era marked the end of conformity and the true departure upon my own path and I haven't looked back since. The explosives are better contained today ;)

"Stupid Girl" by Garbage, probably, but I don't want to find myself lying on my deathbed one day thinking it was all defined by a pop tune. I'm hoping the music running through my head at that point will be somethig like the Third movement of Beethoven's Sonata in C sharp minor (the fast bit of the one that starts out with Moonlight Sonata). I want to go out with a bang - even if it's only in my head.

Love that song... listened to it alot when I was doing my PhD and going through my divorce from a man who wanted to make me choose (him or the PhD).

I'll have to refresh my memory on the Beethoven. I've got some favorite classical pieces myself.

Nimrod - Edward Elgar, Enigma Variations

Lacrimosa - Mozart

Rachmaninov's Piano Concertos 1-4

Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries

Soundtrack from Disney's Fantasia :)

Ohhhh this is embarrassing but my themesong would be the chorus to Tubthumping by Chumbawumba- one hit wonder from the 90's. (minus the drinking parts, I don't drink very much or often)

"I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never gonna keep me down!"

I guess I'm an optimist despite everything.

Great taste, my girl! The Beethoven piece I mentioned is a killer. I've been trying to learn it for years (third movement - not the well know first) but it's so fast that a sort of paralysis of the limbs sets in and I can only play bits (badly) at a time. I read recently that playing the piano burns 160 calories per hour...but I'm pretty sure that piece would be more like 250.

Garbage is great for self destructive mode. One of my favourites was when they got together with Fun Lovin Criminals and did this....

Such a lovely chilled out version.

Oh, and I just have to share this. Not that I won't always love the Animal's version...but Sinead O'Connor's version here of House of the Rising Sun absolutely haunts me. Itunes don't seem to sell it, and I don't know why.

I love her voice (Sinead's). She did a great set of old torch songs too that I listen to when I want to feel sorry for myself :)

I've been thinking about this thread and I couldn't figure out how to pick one song that best described my personality. So many choices!

Yesterday, as a way to cheer myself up, I put on the top 25 playlist in Itunes. The song I have listened to the most is 1 2 3 4 by Feist. This is a song that always cheers me up, especially when I get to dance around and sing along at the top of my lungs.

I actually think it describes my personality and how I behave, especially in love. I love like a teenager, unabashedly, in full force, believing love can conquer all obstacles, putting the horse before the cart, always allowing myself to fall hard. I get my heart broken like a teenage girl, mend it, move on. I even love to be boy crazy (or maybe that will pass one day?). I also tend to be pretty true to myself in all relationship. I know who I am.

In the never ending series of threads devoted to 'discovering our true selves'

In pursuit of the necessary self awareness needed to find someone we can love and vice versa...

What are the songs you feel best describe you? Your personality? What motivates you? Marks a turning point in your life?

Today it is

a) 'Drive'... Incubus

b) 'No Such Thing'...Chris Cornell

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEpKZB-Qc3o

c) 'Watershed'... Indigo Girls

d) 'One'... U2

well, minus the indigo girls we have the same taste in music.

i was really debating buying 2 VIP tickets to voodoofest just to see soundgarden since they recently got back together...a week before the girl you and i were talking about was gone. dodged a bullet with that one i guess.

and drive is at the top of my incubus playlist.

the song that got to me today on the way home thinking about her...

SRV - Life by the Drop

"you went your way and i stayed behind,

we both knew it was just a matter of time"

"no wasted time we're allowed today"

"churning up the past there's no easier way"

"time spent between us a means to an end"

especially after her and i saw eric johnson about a month ago around the anniversary of stevie's death, and i was explaining the TX blues scene to her (i lived there for about 6 years) and introducing her to some of that stuff...ouch, those lines will get ya 4 days after a breakup.

:( Aww...

I know that there are certain movies and music that mark pivotal moments in my life too...

Four days... seems longer than that for some reason. You really sure it is over??? I know you have to prep yourself for that. But I wonder.

I've had people come back a few months later with second thoughts... If there was no betrayal... there might be a chance?? I'm not making excuses for her or anything... but I know I've done some pre-mature curb kicking myself. Just sayin'.

Since you are rolling in the dough...

I'm still looking for peeps who like Halloween to go hit the town with... My buddy in Chicago hasn't come through (yet). The 'Big Easy' isn't in my budget. However... NYC is a train ride away...

i will NOT sob away my incessantly about my breakup in YOUR thread ;). (just one more post)

we broke up on monday night, so 5 days i guess? yeah, i was one off.

but yeah for now, it is over. she won't meet anyone in the next few months in all likelihood, she's literally 24/7 with work and grad school prereqs right now, and location wise not terribly dissimilar from you, her and her family are a lot more classy than the people they live around. in her case, also more classy than the places they can afford to go. in a way, that time situation was the root of the issues. she was frustrated about what time she did spend me not seeming to appreciate, because i was frustrated about missing out on the last two weeks together before she started school because of the knee, that brought other things to the surface that turned into arguments and distance as we both fell back on our old habits of pushing people away for the same ole reasons, before we figured out how to deal with our schedule issues.

we'll see.

umm, i am pretty much unfamiliar with new england, i have been through those cities, but just to visit family in connecticut (who are since passed, stepmother's aunt/uncle). my range of living/travel has been mostly in the midwest/southeast and texas. i've gotta rest this knee for the next 2-3 weeks as much as i can, but i was figuring on being stir crazy around the week of halloween and having to get out and do something then. my cousin was trying to set me up with a co-worker of hers in st loius around the time i met my ex and has been picking at me to come up there for halloween, but that girl is 22 and in full blown early 20s me-me-me mode from what i can see. think i'm gonna pass on that offer, no matter how tempting someone setting me up with a girl 12 years younger than me may be.

so in that case, sure! shoot me a pm if you're serious and not just trying to cheer me up ;). i'll take a trip anywhere as long as there's someone to meet up with me and show me around when i get there.

Late October/Early November IS the prime season for New England. Although, we've had alot of rain this summer, so the colors may not be as dramatic as past years. The Fall Season is what 'we' are known for. I definately know my way around New England.

The 22 yr old can wait until after leaf peeping season to meet you :)
