Buttercup84 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 This was kind of " our " show when we were going out , we watched in on our first date and watched it every week together. I love this show so I still watch it , plus I watched it before we met too. I will get to the point : Despite it being fiction it kind of gives me hope. We know Ted will meet the mother but he has to go through a lot of heartbreak to meet her. Plus he has awesome friends to help him along the way . He is in his thirties and a great guy , good looking and still looking for her. I am 27 and most of my friends have gotten married or are in relationships. So I try and see this as my little story of " How I met your father " and one day I hope I can look back and tell my kids what I had to go trhough until I met their dad
written in the stars Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I started watching this show right after my most recent break up, which was the worst thing I've ever been through in my life. I have never been so heartbroken in my life! It has helped me greatly throughout this whole process by feeding into both sides of my emotions. Sometimes I'll catch signs in it that make me think my ex will come back, and other times it conveys to me the harsh reality that's she won't! A funny example of a sign that I got early on in the breakup from the show is I gave my ex a promise ring for our first Christmas together. I went to a second hand store and picked up a random book, cause she likes to read, the book was "A Man in Full" by Tom Wolf. I just grabbed it cause it was a nice hefty hard cover I could use to carve out a pocket in the pages. I put the ring inside the book and wrapped it as a gift. I made her open it last and she seemed disappointed until she started fingering through it and noticed the ring box. Shortly after we broke up after over a 3 year relationship, I started watching the show and wouldn't you know........there in the bookshelf in Ted's apartment is that damn book! It's been there every season and it's pretty much the only thing I hate about the show now. Sorry for the long story, It just felt good to tell it!
Author Buttercup84 Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 Don't be sorry , thanks for sharing. I am sorry for your heartbreak. It was really sweet of you to do that though.I hate when those things happen it seems like you can not escape from signs at all.
oldguy Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 That is an awesome show! Do they show it with subtitles in Australia, I am JK you know?
Author Buttercup84 Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 I'll get back to you once I have a witty comeback
MIK1000 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Funnily enough I was watching a lot of this after my break up and still am. It's a feel good show so it's always going to make you feel better but I suppose the huge relationship element to the show can bring alot of emotions to the surface. When Lily leaves Marshall for a whole summer and breaks his heart only to come back to him, made me feel like that would happen with my relationship (it hasn't yet) and I suppose that's not a good thing.
