misssmartypants Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I gave up on online dating but recently set up an account on okcupid. I live in a very small town and work at the high school, so I don't have a picture up. I've actually gotten better results with no picture. The messages I get are from men who've read my profile and decided to respond. Its a better conversation than I've had before. But none of these online conversations have lead much of anywhere. They all eventually ask for pictures, at which point I tell them my facebook profile so they can look at pictures there. On my facebook, I have some pictures of me, and a lot of my kids, friends, relatives and pets. I don't have any of those duck-faced self portraits taken from above with my boobs showing. But I do have a lot of pictures taken by other people who then tagged me in them that aren't very flattering. Also, I've lost some weight recently, about 40 lbs, but there are still pictures up of me heavier. I've have long, back and forth emails with three guys. One friended me on facebook and we chat occasionally, but nothing more. I think he's after more of a fling than I am anyway. Two others, I never heard from again. So, thoughts?
j86 Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Most guys on sites like that sometime just judge based on pictures and nothing else. But then again some girls do too. I guess it just comes down to who will really get to know you for your interests.
Author misssmartypants Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 Its just so discouraging. I never claimed to be a rare beauty, but I know that I am pretty, interesting, active, intelligent and unusual. I work hard and take care of my responsibilities. I just don't understand why I am still alone.
j86 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I feel the same way you do. I myself prefer girls who are unusual, and have interesting interests. I just overall prefer nerdy girls more than anything. i used to wonder that about myself. But people tend to stick to what they like and not try something new. I dated various girls and found it to be a cool learning experience.

You haven't really invested in online dating if you don't put up few good pictures. Sure, you may have had some good responses but they have petered out and led nowhere. Directing to your FB page where you have older, heavier, non-flattering pictures doesn't make a lot of sense. Time to get some recent, decent, attractive photos up. It shouldn't make any difference if you work at the high school...I don't think your students will be on OKCupid. You will get more responses with better pictures. Some responses will not be the kind you're looking for, but overall more = more possibilities. Online dating is partly luck, partly persistence, and partly skill in presenting yourself. It's not easy, but as a woman it's easier than for a guy. I met my BF on OKCupid. I say, go for it!
Andy_K Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Instead of sending them to your facebook where there are many pics of you much bigger, send them some decent ones that are recent instead.
