With Halloween approaching, I wanted to hear if anyone was dressing up, what your outfit will be, and what your plans are...

For Halloween, I'm joining a 'flock' of birds inspired by one of my gay friends. He is dressing up as a flamingo (can't wait to see that! He has bright red hair). His other friends are dressing up as a peacock and another as a swan.

I'm dressing up as a Firebird. The Firebird is a character in a ballet (yay!), but is also associated with the mystical Phoenix that rises from the ashes, to be consumed by flames, only to later rise from the ashes... reborn.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_(mythology)

I've been drawn to this character for years... many of us have essentially been 'reborn' in one way or another after a failed relationship or life crisis.

Anyway, that was the inspiration for my costume. What I REALLY want to know is what others are doing for Halloween??

I'll be going to my friend's favorite gay bar (yea, I know. Won't be meeting any single, straight men THERE)...

I'll probably try to drag some of my straight friends out too. Keep in mind, I get out for something like this maybe once a year.

Have thought about having my own costume party too, but I tend to gravitate towards smaller dinner and house parties. Maybe I can make it a 'rule' that the price of admission is bringing a single man they know. ha ha

I'm going as a wizard (duh) to the KCRW Halloween Masquerade Ball, which is actually going to be on Saturday the 29th. Over 2,000 other people will be there along with 5 live bands (each one in a different room of the hotel), a couple of bars, DJs, and gourmet catering trucks. I went to the ones they had last year and in '09... it is about as much fun as a dateless person can expect to have in one night.

I live in a fairly night-life heavy East Coast city, and for the previous few years I've been going out on the Saturday closest to halloween - and it's always a blast. Sometimes we'll go to a big costume party with a band, but it's just as much fun to wander around the bars in the historic part of the city and see all the costumes.

It's a big debate, as far as what to be. I was thinking Waldo from "Where's Waldo", Forest Gump after he's been running across America (probably not, as I'd need a huge wig and a huge fake beard) or something else. It'll probably be something else. There are no sexy male halloween costumes, so I have roll funny or creative.

This sounds like a blast! I loved KCRW when I lived near LA (was born in CA)...

I've seen lots of good wizard costumes... is it one you put together or are you renting? There is a great costume rental place nearby me that supplies theatres for miles around. Always a good place to go for ideas..

Have fun! Report in afterwards too..

Was thinking...maybe I need to head to a big city. After all this effort with my costume, I really need to get some mileage out of it!

Anybody near NYC or Montreal??

No sexy male halloween costumes?? Hmmm. Well, last year I went to a party and one of the guys was a leprechan. I know, doesn't sound sexy, but he did get to talk about his 'lucky charms' plenty :)

I saw another one years ago... a guy had on a standard polo shirt, with Barbie dolls sewn on... "Chick Magnet". Cute huh?

Last but not least, someone on LS posted a pic of a guy with a box over him, cut out in the front to look like a Dr's window. He had a dr's outfit on, and over the front of the box it said "Free breast exams"

Too bad there wasn't a Scottish bagpipe player there. You could have told he was a McDonald if there was a 1/4-pounder under his kilt. :p
