Hi All, has there been any threads on world of warcraft addiction? My wife became addicted to this game eventually playing every night after work from 7:pm till 11:30 and for hours on the weekends. She ended up walking away from our 20year plus marriage and two kids. from waht I've read online this is becoming a epidemic.

Everybody says that game is internet 'crack'.

I have a controlled gaming issue. I recognised a problem a few years ago and have it under control.

She left your marriage to be with world of warcraft? wow.

And here I thought it was a man, and was gonna tell you (jokingly) to just date women. But the roles are reversed. Yeah, this is pretty common, but the guys I know who are like this just piss their gfs off, they don't leave em.

I can't understand how anyone could give up their family for a video game.

I've known a few r'ships to have ended because of one person's WoW addiction. Its so pathetic.

My bf hadnt played in years and then he started up again about 6 months ago, just for something to do after work. Well - it quickly went from about 3 hours a week to 5 hours a day. I couldnt believe how quickly he got sucked back in. Luckily he saw what was happening and has walked away again. It doesnt seem to be a game that many people can play just recreationally.

I never understood video games. I hate them, no matter how "awesome" some people say they are. I just think they are all retarded. The most serious game I have played on my computer is solitaire, lol! And i can only stand that for about 2 minutes.

I'm so glad I checked out this thread. I had heard of WoW but didnt know much about it. I am going to have to read more about video game addiction, I dont want my sons to fall victim to this type addiction. I have been on board with the education they are getting at school about drug and alcohol addiction, but now I also worry about porn and video game addictions too. Guess I need to read up and educate myself. Weird that it could end a 20 year marriage. But addictions are like that.

I've been reading about this too! In fact, I saw these articles about WoW and online gaming in general on another website. It's kind of scary how quickly video/computer games can turn into an obsession! It seems like parents (and adults) have to be really careful about the amount of time they, or their kids, are spending playing these games. Although, I guess some people may be more wired to become addicted than others. But, I'd definitely be on the lookout for signs that my family is loosing interest in real-life and spending all their time playing a game! Unfortunately, sounds like some people I know. :(

P.S. Forever Learning, I'm not sure if it will help, but I also saw this material for parents about kids and video games. Just FYI!

I bet she's looking forward to 4.3 coming out in a few weeks. The transmogrification changes and the ilvl increase with the release of the new 5-mans is something sweet.

Note to OP: I am also a gamer. I so happened to be one lucky enough to select another gamer when it comes to romance and love.

Everyone plays WoW for some reason or another. How old are your kids? Have they flown the nest? If so, perhaps it's something you and your wife can share as a mutual activity until she, like many before her, inevitably loses interest.
