Homing Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 i like to do daily push ups, but it takes me about 10 minutes of procrastinating to actually do it. i seem to have some kind of aversion to it, any reasons why cause i want to know if others have the same problem as i do. i no it is strange cause if i do 60 push ups, it should take just a minute, not 10 minutes and then a minute of actual pushups.
FitChick Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Why not start out just doing planks? Works most of the same muscles. I hate pushups so sometimes do pec flies and similar.
Dark Phoenix Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 make a video of yourself doing your routine (even if it's just push ups). in the video act like you are a coach and are instructing your viewers to do "perfect" push ups, or however you want to fashion them. watch the video and follow along with yourself. Should fix the problem.
Author Homing Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 Why not start out just doing planks? Works most of the same muscles. I hate pushups so sometimes do pec flies and similar. planks take too long, i want to be done in 60 seconds not 60 minutes
Cypress25 Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 60 pushups in 60 seconds is rather ambitious, don't you think? Your form probably suffers, going that fast.
betterdeal Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Why the rush? Are you sure you can't rearrange your schedule so you have another 49 minutes to do exercise? 1 minute of intense exercise is likely to lead to more muscle tears and scar tissue, hence you are reluctant to repeat the damaging routine.

PegNosePete Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 i want to know if others have the same problem as i do Yes many people have the same problem. It's called lazyitis.
Forever Learning Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 because intense exercise for 1/1,440th of your day, every day, keeps you strong. Never thought of it that way, what a GREAT perspective, love it! Well they have me doing push ups in the Martial Arts I recently enrolled in. I am a female and have very little upper body strength. This matters not to my instructor. So I am the goofy 42 year old lady on the ground struggling through my modified push ups (I pivot from my knees). This is amidst a class full of boys and young men all under age 20. I guess I must rock to even be there in the first place. The other soccer moms watch me thru the window and giggle I'm sure. Recently strained my shoulder lifting weights, so now even the modified 'on the ground' push ups are out of the question for a week or two. What I plan to do in class today is stand facing a wall with my feet about 2 - 3 feet from the wall, and do the push ups against the wall. This is the most modified push up I have found, and even with my bum shoulder I can do it. So to answer OP's question, maybe you should do some warm up push ups or do modified push ups, if the real thing causes so much procrastination some days. At least you will have gotten some type of push up exercise in. Then you could go back and do the real thing once the motivation strikes you. Keep up the good work on the push up front - well done!
Els Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Hey, at least you procrastinate for 10 minutes. I've been procrastinating for a year now. Sorry, I know that didn't help.
Feelin Frisky Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 OP, that you do it at all is a great thing. Most folks don't--for a number of reasons. I confine my upper body exercise to the gym three or four times a week. I hate the idea of getting all sweaty in the morning every day.
