Homing Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 So I was talking to this woman and she said i had a baby face? now is that a compliment or an insult? im 25 year old male and do look young, and the woman was about 30 i would guess. just trying to figure out if she meant i was not man enough (taken as a negative trait) or was she implying that youth is desirable (a positive trait)?
Ginger Beer Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Maybe she meant you're cute. I get called cute a lot, which is crap as I'd rather be sexy than cute. Being a man and being called cute is basically being told 'you're nice but no thanks'.
Cypress25 Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Sounds like she was just being condescending. It's not usually meant as a compliment, so I don't know why she would say that unless she was trying to insult you. Don't let it get to you though.
Feelin Frisky Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 It's not a bad thing usually. Was she mocking you? Did she say it with a smile and a pleasant tone? "Cute" is a good thing too. I don't agree it means "nice but no thanks". Cute is just a way of saying appealing/attractive.

In the UK, most of the time, calling something 'cute' means like a puppy or a kitten sort of cute. If you're getting called cute like that, you're not desirable to whoever is saying it.

It can be used sarcastically but that is so sparsely used that way as to be barely worth mention. You're in UK?

Author Homing Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 yes this is in canada, cute is considered a positive here. back to the topic I don't think she was mocking me, however looking back i don't think it was a compliment either, i mean who brings up they have a babyface in a convo, that is why i had to ask here.
