My friends told me I act like a know-it-all. How can I change?

I thought I was just a confident person with a good memory and endless curiosity. I don't think I talk a lot or force my advice on people, but I've been told I ask the wrong questions or share my opinions in the wrong way. Sometimes I feel like I would be liked better if I didn't talk at all. My friends are louder and more talkative than me, but I seem to annoy them whenever I tell them how I feel. What is the right way to give an opinion or contribute to a conversation without sounding like I think I'm smarter? I never intend to be overbearing. Please help!

Like Uma said in Pulp Fiction: Do you listen? Or just wait for your turn to talk?

Listen to what the other person is saying, and then respond to it instead of just interjecting your opinion. People don't like having their views disregarded. Don't be condescending or patronizing, just respect their point of view before proceeding.

Practice saying things like:

What do you think?

That's an interesting perspective; tell me more.

Help me understand your view on that.

What has your experience been?

ASK people what THEY think and truly LISTEN to their replies before chiming in with your views.
