snug.bunny Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 You know what's funny, the only people who like the runway model type women are, women and gay men. So all the women out there who feel pressure to be really skinny or think they aren't tall enough because of the media, think for a second about who is actually pushing that image. Rail thin is not sexy, such as this VERY THIN But, female model body shapes (such as Adriana Lima, Gisele Bundchen..) are considered very sexy. The clothes they model stand out, because of their figures. Those same clothes would not have the same appeal to the viewer if a woman wearing it was much bigger and thicker (and shorter). That is why models are "models" and others, well...aren't. Runway model body types are unrealistic for the majority of the population, and yes, the media does do a good job of pushing those images enough so to make some women who do not have a "model figure", feel inadequate. Somewhere in-between rail thin and overweight (AKA average) is a healthy target to aim for.
PratyekaYana Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Then there is this one Pink and Curvy More curves Lean over Gotta love the booty Nice She's a little less taut (compare her form to Vergara's or the woman at the beach) than what I would typically prefer, but I would gladly overlook her "excess" in favor of her proportion. Her figure is simply phenomenal.

I'd actually prefer that both were a little heavier. You make a point about the clothes standing out. And I'll go back to my point that the only people that care how the clothes look are women and gay men. Yeah, the best place to be is, in between runway model and 'average.'

I could never be that thin even if I wanted to, my body likes to hold onto food!! I would be scared if I was that skinny!!
Disenchantedly Yours Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 You know what's funny, the only people who like the runway model type women are, women and gay men. So all the women out there who feel pressure to be really skinny or think they aren't tall enough because of the media, think for a second about who is actually pushing that image. Yeah, next time I catch site of a Playboy magazine or Maxim, I'll remember how much men like girls with regular bodies. Runway Models promote one unrealistic ideal of beauty. Men's media like Playboy, porn and Maxim support another unrealistic ideal of beauty. One is not better or more healthy for women then the other. When men say they like women who aren't stick thin, what they are really saying is they like women with big boobs, a big butt but a little waist. Most people know that real boobs are just fat and that when a woman works out a lot, she will loose weight all over, in her breasts included. Very few women have naturally big breasts, tiny waists and big butts. But because men buy into the surgically enhanced and photoshopped enhanced women they see daily, they maintain unrealistic standards about what a real woman's body is. Just as much as unrealistic standards are placed on Runway models.
ascendotum Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Yeah, next time I catch site of a Playboy magazine or Maxim, I'll remember how much men like girls with regular bodies. Runway Models promote one unrealistic ideal of beauty. Men's media like Playboy, porn and Maxim support another unrealistic ideal of beauty. I agree tall lean pretty (though I think many are not that pretty myself) runway models are a little unrealistic. I think women benchmark themselves against these models much more than men use them as a yardstick for the type of woman they want though. Its been ages since I checked out a playboy mag, but didn't remember the centerfolds as being unrealistic beauties. They all pretty much have great breasts though. So I googled Oct playmate and its a girl called Amanda. http://www.cavemancircus.com/galleries2/2011/7/amanda_cerny/amanda_cerny_028.php (she's on the right). Hardly an unrealistic body for a women in her early 20s who watches what she eats and exercises. Go to any inner city niteclub and they are full of girls in their early 20s with figures like that. Blessed with a pretty face but not a freakish figure, but for your avg woman over 25 in the UK/US/AUS/CA/GE a figure like that would seem unrealistic, but it shouldn't be. OP - I found your example of curvy amusing, if you think that's the prime example of curvy. Those pics that irc333 posted of that girl, now thats curvy. From Kate Moss to that girl its all good.
Kinder-Horror Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 That's just slim with wide hips and breasts. Lol. So...wide breasts...slim waist...wide hips.......And how is that not curvy? Oh because you really mean overweight when you say curvy. Curvy to me is more like this: http://notontheguestlist.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/chrlotte.jpg http://a1.l3-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/113/6fda0e50014b4f9a80e7bf585917deda/l.jpg To ME, that isn't necessarily curvy. It is overweight. Yes they are curvy because they are overweight... but if they lost that weight, they may be curvy or ... a different body type - overweight is not the overall arching image of curvy. Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Marilyn Monroe (36"-22"-36") - those are curvy girls who are/were not overweight... I guess the proper question should be which curvy type are you attracted to? Curvy like this: http://cdn.zmescience.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/curvy-scale-time-rate-scarlett-johansson1.jpg or curvy like this: http://notontheguestlist.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/chrlotte.jpg Not because there is a right or wrong answer... but because curvy is an ambiguous term. But for the record, I am right. jk .. but seriously.
ThsAmericanLife Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 (edited) Threads promoting one's own body type seems pretty narcisstic. I'm also tired of threads devoted to people's preferences in looks. If people spent half as much time developing their other qualities, the world would be a much better place, IMHO. Frankly, I'm more interested in what people can DO with their bodies than what they look like. I just turned 47 a week or two ago. I've been on pointe in ballet for about three years. That doesn't happen if one is a fat-ass. Before that, I was a 5 mile a day runner who did fairly well competively. I'd like to think this reasonably attractive body of mine will take me well into my upper years with a really good quality of life... which is the only thing that matters to me. However, for kicks and grins... I'm going to post a picture of me. Taken last year (age 46). Won't stay up long... but just thought people would like to see what healthy living does for you. Edited September 23, 2011 by ThsAmericanLife
ThsAmericanLife Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 ok, ok. Sorry if that last post sounded a bit narcisstic too. I just really don't like all this focus on people's bodies. Especially women's bodies. We get way way too much of that in our daily lives. Enough already.
Kinder-Horror Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Nobody was questioning the benefits of healthy living...
ThsAmericanLife Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Nobody was questioning the benefits of healthy living... You're right. People weren't talking about anything health related at all. Just what people look like. It's getting quite old... It seems that half of the threads on LS are either devoted to grand-standing one's looks (which, ok, I've been guilty of once or twice... I'll admit to some ego stroking) or trashing other people for theirs. Then they complain about not being able to find anyone. Like it somehow happens magically.

It's a good thing I'm not a guy or a lesbian, 'cause I could be considered a pedophile in what I find attractive. lol like I said, Miranda Cosgrove, Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne. Girls with teeny teeny boobies. lol
Hot Chick Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 No offense, Lynnie, but you're not that body type. You stated you gained weight. You said you would be like that again when you lose it. Well, you haven't lost it so you are not the attractive body type that you promote.
123321 Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 You know what's funny, the only people who like the runway model type women are, women and gay men. Speak for yourself.
OliveOyl Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I recently saw Keira Knightley in a movie where she is supposed to be sexy and she takes off almost all her clothes. I think she is very pretty, but all I could do was gasp in horror at how skinny she is.

I find both sizes very attractive. That's obese.

True2form Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Speaking up for the girls who are in-between here.... I'm not a waif but I'm not curvy, I'm 5'10" - the height of a fashion model, but I have an "Athletic figure" UK size 12...apparently US size 8 (although I always thought it was US 10 but I just consulted a label and was corrected) I have small boobs and I wish my hips were curvier but you know what... It's not what you look like it's about how you hold yourself and what your attitude is all about. The curve I use as my secret weapon is the upwards curve of a nice smile. BAM! Men like it all, in my experience.
Hot Chick Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I never stated what I am right now. Yeah but you said currently you have gained weight and are not skinny like that.

I find both sizes very attractive. I guess we can't expect women to get it right on online dating profiles if us men can't agree either. Of the two you linked to, I wouldn't describe either as curvy. First one is overweight, second one is full figured, with neither having a well-defined waist. (The second one is shaped by a corset, too, but it's hard to tell to what degree.)
Engadget Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I like big women, skinny when you can see the ribcage is an automatic turn off and disgusting to me.
KR10N Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Idk if it's because I get on LS at certain times, but it certainly seems like women are far more criticized by their looks then men. Why is that?
ToBeHonest Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Idk if it's because I get on LS at certain times, but it certainly seems like women are far more criticized by their looks then men. Why is that? I'm new here but have been reading the posts and alot of the men here seem to be extra critical of women's bodies. I really wonder what these guys look like. Are they perfect looking or something? Its very easy to be critical and judgemental on the internet.
