SugarLily Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 SO, This probably sounds totally nuts - but I don't know what to do . . . My ex bought me a beautiful plant a while back after he ditched me for the weekend to go out and get drunk with his friends. Now it's sitting in my room - and I have to see it everyday. I love it - and it doesn't necessarily make me sad - maybe just sub-consciously nostalgic. It just seems too ironic that it continues to blossom though our relationship is dead. Part of me thinks that I should let it die as some kind of healing process. Or shall I keep maintaining it? It sounds crazy - but I want to give myself all the help I can in getting over my ex. Help! x
geegirl Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Poor plant. Paying for your ex. Don't let it die. Look at the plant as you blossoming and growing, everyday you are away from the jerk.
mike588 Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 It's not the plants fault,, don't let it die! As it grows so will you.
Beachgirl8 Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Give it to someone who needs cheering up and will appreciate it, like an elderly neighbor. That will make you feel good, the plant wont suffer, and you won't have to look at it anymore.
Author SugarLily Posted September 21, 2011 Author Posted September 21, 2011 Hahaha! Don't worry - it's nothing personal against the plant! Just what it represents! x
M2155 Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 This made me smile. I can't keep a plant alive to save my life. I'd say let it live. If it reminds you of him, let it be the good things you've taken away from the relationship that is going to make your next one even better.
KathyM Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Give it to someone who needs cheering up and will appreciate it, like an elderly neighbor. That will make you feel good, the plant wont suffer, and you won't have to look at it anymore. That's a good suggestion. Give it to somebody else so it won't be a painful reminder of a relationship that has gone bad, or a person that you are trying to get over.
Author SugarLily Posted September 21, 2011 Author Posted September 21, 2011 Wait . . . So 1) keep it, 2) kill it (I sound like a psycho), or 3) give it away? Vote now - For the plants sake! x
M2155 Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I vote for #1 if you like plants and don't mind the work. Why not have a good memory that represents positive growth. #3 otherwise. If you gave it to me #2 would happen...but not intentionally
ConfusedT Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 not crazy, good question. no you shouldn't let it die. your memories of your ex will be there day in and day out. think of the blossoming as you blossoming, not the relationship. it's over, let time & faith heal your wounds, killin a plant wont do that.
XmaryfeyX Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Please don't use the plant as some metaphor for growth from the relationship. He bought it for you, he saw it, thought of you and bought it for you back when he cared. Its always going to be reminder of how things used to be good between you two. Throw it away, let it die, make a non-diabetic dish out of it - just stop looking at it. Throwing away mementos from the relationship is one of the hardest things, but the sooner you do it, the quicker you start to forget.
BrokenLaw Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Plant it outside. Let it be free to fend for itself, just like you letting him go.
darkmoon Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 plant it in a cemetary to bury the past. it's too much of a reminder. buy a new eye-shadow or top and check out your pretty smile in the mirror:)
