I have always adored fragrances. I love love love cologne on men (Calvin Klein Eternity will always be my favorite!), and I have about 25 bottles of different perfumes on my dresser.

In my recent search for the next addition to my collection, I got to wondering which types of perfumes men like on women, and which scents women like on men.

Obviously there's no one standard answer as everyone is different.... But still, I'm interested in hearing everyone's opinions :)

The last time I was compelled to ask for the name of something a woman was wearing, the answer was, True Religion.

I love fragrance but it has to be the RIGHT fragrance. If I don't like it, I feel nauseous. Too many men wear too much cologne so that you can smell them a mile away. You should only be able to smell it when you are up close and personal. Same for a woman. What one person likes, I dislike and vice versa.

Go fragrance sampling with your man. Wear sleeveless or short sleeves and spritz on about four on each arm and after an hour sniff each other to decide what you like. Fragrance mixes with your chemistry. It can be a very sexy way to make first contact with each other, i.e. grab his arm and nuzzle it, "Umm, this one smells sooo good on you. It's almost an aphrodisiac" or put your wrist under his nose and say, "I think I like this one best on me. What do you think?" If you are lucky, he will buy you a bottle of whichever one he likes best!

I love them. I've got too many, probably over 50, but I don't know many people who have an interest in fragrance.

In England, most men who wear them (which isn't many) only wear the top-sellers you see being advertised.

In my experience, women prefer clean-smelling fragrances on men, not strong ones, just clean. So that would mean aquatics and some sweet ones, but that's only a tiny fraction of what's out there.

On women, I like almond/vanilla based fragrances and some floral ones although I have no idea on the names and I agree with the other poster who said only people close to you should be able to smell them, not to over-spray.

On myself, the ones women seem to like the most or have complimented me most are things like Versace's The Dreamer, L'Artisan Tea for Two, Burberry Brit, Dior Fahrenheit, L'Eau D'Issey and a few others, I have some popular ones that get compliments too but I don't like wearing them as I feel too generic. Scent is important though, if a woman smells right it drives me mad. :)

OP, what's your favourite perfume out of all the ones you own?

I have over 20 bottles of cologne myself. My favorite one is either Jean Paul Galutier or D&G (limited edition, so good luck finding it anymore!!).

As for women, my favorite was my ex's Envy Me by Gucci or Jean Paul Gaultier for women. Either of those scents drive me crazy!!!!!

I remember my ex always telling me that every time she would smell the Jean Paul cologne on anyone, all she could think about was our first date (cologne I wore on the first date). Smells do trigger a lot of memories.

The first time that I went out with the girl that ended up flaking on me, she smelt amazing! Every time I get a whiff of that perfume it always brings back that memory of first seeing her.

Whatever I wear, I wear just enough that she has to lean in to get a better smell.

Got some avon stuff. IronMan for day to day & TrueForce for nights out.

Women really like the true force. One spritz is all I need.

for women, just don't make my eyes water at 10 paces or 5 or stink up my car.
