michel34598 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Hey guys, So I took a girl out for coffee 2 days ago, it was nice and I offered to take her to a movie in a couple of days- which she accepted. Her birthday is the day before I take her out. What do people think? Is getting her a birthday gift coming on too strong, especially considering its only the 2nd time I'm seeing her? Keep in mind, what I'm giving her is very small- some ankle weights- fitness is so important to her... P.s. for anyone who doesnt know, ankle weights are 1kg weights in velcro which you can attach to your wrist or ankle while you run to make the workout more challenging...
Imageiko Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 A friend would get her ankle weights, I'd get her a small bouquet of flowers if I were you.
SmileFace Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Do not get her flowers. I think the ankle weights are a great and creative idea.
ScienceGal Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Ankle weights and a card that says "I hope you have a wonderful birthday!" They are specific to her which is nice, and if she doesn't like it, I'll take them
laotzu Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I wouldn't get her anything if this was the second time I was seeing her. I'd likely just pay for the movie and then call her to wish her a happy birthday the next day, and use it as a conduit to get another date if I wanted one. Buying her a gift pretty much only has downside.

Imajerk17 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 No gift! Gifts are for girls you are already in relationships with. So, no flowers and no ankle weights. A call/text on her birthday is enough.
SmileFace Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Interesting, care to elaborate? Like you said ankle weights are something a friend will get her. They are nothing more than mere friends, if even that much. Plus flowers are cheesy if not from a lover,IMHO. The weights will show that he is interested and have been paying attention.
SmileFace Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 If you are set on buying her a gift go ahead but it isn't needed this early. It is a nice unneeded gesture.

rightfield Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 You could always text her a "Happy Birthday, and I'm looking forward to seeing the movie with you tomorrow." This shows that you were paying attention, but you don't risk coming on too strong with the gift.
Author michel34598 Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 Thanks to all who replied. Sounds like my gift idea could really go either way- I'll play it by ear on the night, and if I'm having a great time with her, I may just give it to her then, or not at all. Appreciate everyone's input on this!
Cypress25 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Ankle weights are a strange gift. Did she say she wanted them? If not, don't assume she would like them just because she's into fitness. Wearing ankle weights while you exercise is actually bad for your joints. Most fitness experts avoid them.
somethingsimple Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Just give it to her, if she takes it any other way than o well. Besides it seems like you already bought it.
ScienceGal Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Just give it to her, if she takes it any other way than o well. Besides it seems like you already bought it. yeah, did you already buy them? I've discussed this with 5 other women on your behalf. It's unanimous, just send her a happy birthday message and that's it. Apparently a gift might freak her out (though I wouldn't be freaked out if I had a nice date with you). But alas, I am outvoted and since I don't know her, I have been swayed to the other side. No gift!
Author michel34598 Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 Alright, the gift is history- a happy birthday and perhaps paying for the movie ticket is enough. Ankle weights- probably didn't think that one through before I did it? I now have my own set of ankle weights- woo! Wish me luck tomorrow :-)
ScienceGal Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Good luck! You sound very thoughtful and sweet. She's a lucky girl!
