EM47 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Ok here is my situation: I want to propose to my GF later this year and I want it to be somewhat of a surprise so going shopping with her to pick out the ring is not my first choice. I want to get her a nice Tiffany e-ring. I know they are $$$ and I can get a better deal online etc but she loves Tiffany and even though she never said, I can tell she would love a Tiffany ring and would probably prefer a little smaller Tiffany ring than a bigger one from somewhere else. Except the problem is I am not 100% sure the ring to choose. She did mention she liked the classic round Tiffany setting one time a long time ago but she also liked some of the other styles too. So here is my 2 options I am kind of thinking: Choice A) choose a ring that I think she will like B) propose to her with a Tiffany box with either nothing in it, a note saying we are going ring shopping or a mock ring and then take her ring shopping for her perfect ring What do I do in your opinion?
Osiris1234 Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Dude a ring really doesn't need to cost $$$$$$$, just get her something that is like 700-800 price range, also as long as the ring looks pretty why worry what it looks like? Also id sign a pre-nup (just for an insurance policy) Id just propose to her with he ring in the box.
sweetypielovely Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 I told my BF I want something unusual and not the normal diamond ring. Im thinking an amethyst that looks like an engagement ring. Im definitely not into normal. LOL. Im also not about price because at the end of the day its just a ring. Your gonna need money for a wedding and all that jazz. Im not her obviously but id take her ring shopping and see what she goes for to get a better idea. Im sure if shes younger she will go for expensive and all that but i guess thats up to you what you spend. I would not give her an empty of faux ring though in the box.
TigerCub Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) I think its sweet that you want to get her just what she would like. I think if you were a little sneaky, you could get your answer without blowing your cover. Allow me to demonstrate: "oh, today when I was reading some forum thread, some girl went on and on about some engagement ring that her bf gave her, it was some princess cut or something like that - I just didn't get what she was talking about, I don't even know what those look like" "oh yeah princess cut! Yeah those are nice, here" **clickity clack** and she pulls up some pics... now that you're looking at pics of rings, you can just ask, "oh, so what do you think of this one, what cut is that? oh, I just don't get these things" and honestly, it wont take much coaxing from you, she'll keep looking and giving you hints with "oooh, that's pretty, oooh that's nice" and you'll at least get an idea of what kinds of rings she's into. ...and there ya have it. Good luck Edited September 13, 2011 by TigerCub
bijounk Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Oo! Do you have any guy friends with girlfriends who they might propose to? You could say, "Joe is going to propose to Jane! But he's freaking out because he doesn't know what ring to get her, he was hoping you'd go along with him to help him pick one out for her. She has pretty similar tastes to you" She'll find the perfect one, you'll buy it, and SURPRISE! (You should go too obviously so you can see her general reactions to different styles) Another route is the sentimental route. My wedding ring is a custom design that my hubby and I picked out together (it was kind of a mutual let's get married thing rather than one of us proposing) and the main stone is my mother's wedding ring stone. Good luck and congratulations!!
wezol Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 When I proposed to my ex, I went to one of her friends on what kind of ring she wanted. Turned out, a few months prior, my ex was at her house (because we didnt have internet) looking at rings on her computer, and she showed her friend which one she liked. So I had her friend go through the browse history and she emailed it to me.
