Whenever I suggest my boyfriend we should do something or go somewhere it seems like a not so great idea. But it someone else says it ,all of sudden he loves the idea. For example, there is this cute town with bunch of little shops and restaurants and keep telling him we should go there. He told me it was far and there were to many cops so if he had a drink he would be concern about driving and yada yada yada. I ended up giving up ever going there with him.

Now, yesterday a guy friend of mine was telling us how he went there with his wife and it is a nice place, right away my boyfriend thinks it is a great place to go.I felt like jumping on his neck.

I don't get it..Can someone explain please?

He doesn't value your opinion as much as he values the opinion of his friends.

I've been there myself, not much you can do, unless you give him the silent treatment. Then he'll say what did I do now!

It's just as likely that your wishes to go there stacked up over time and the friend's suggestion was merely the trigger that put him over the top. Remember that entropy is very powerful, sometimes people need many repetitions to alter behavior or try something new, and this doesn't necessarily means they don't value the wishes of whomever is suggesting it. It's why television ads are repeated over and over, the marketers know we have to have things pounded into our heads.

x2. If I was dating a girl and she was actively trying to involve us in new experiences I would definitely be willing to jump on board.

This is also kind of blatant just for the excuse he gave you... He would be concerned driving drunk in that town because of cops.. Real winner there lol. I got an idea, you can go experience the town, and not get sh*faced so you have to worry about driving...

This, I've never been in this situation before, but I think I would be giving my SO a talking to about it and if things didnt change I could easily see myself ending the relationship.

Anyone else been in a relationship like this? What did you end up doing?

Better idea -- he can drink all he likes because she won't and will be the designated driver.
