I don't think the feelings we have ever go completely but they do fade over time. We are all human and can't just turn off our feelings, all we can do is find ways to heal.

Please allow me to speculate and please ignore where I'm wrong:

She doesn't even exist as you knew her. It's been over four years. You are in love with an old video in your mind where the romance always turns out well. It's comforting to stay there and give in to it--to give up on getting out of it. It's the eeeeasy thing. It excuses you from facing new challenges. It's your drug, your pacifier, your special blanket. Is this what you accept of yourself? Is this what you add up to? Are you fine with being just a character in her life instead of having your own worth? The futre is not bleak. It's what you make it. And there is work you need to do to define who you NOW are and let go of who you were then. Good luck.
