Buttercup84 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Are there songs , movies , books , places etc that have been ruined now that your ex dumped you ? Mine are a bit embaressing : When we were first dating I posted on my fb that I wish I could see Taylor Swift. A few days later I get an email from his with the tickets to see her in concert. Well now everytime I see posters of her on my way to wor I feel like ****. Harry Potter : We were supposed to go to the cinema to watch the newest one but the dumped me before that.We were going to watch it in goldclass with the vouchers my sister gave him for his birthday. How I met your mother , Modern family , Glee and firefly : We watched these shows together all the time. And we watched How I met your mother on our first date. I sound like a 12 year old .
radiodarcy Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 for me it's online dating. not that i ever had much success with it. but i have even less of an incentive to do so now as i know he's on there (unless he's found someone by now - - it's been six months - - so my guess is he has). not to mention i just about died when i saw he had visited my profile after that i rarely ever went on there again - - and deleted my acct soon after. i wasn't ready to date anyway. but just seeing an advert on television for match or eharmony makes my heart sink. as does hearing about people dating in general. so i guess for me he ruined dating. because all i do is think about him dating and how he is probably meeting all these great women who are so much better than me not to mention the ratio of women to men in our area is very high - - something like 8 women to one man. so most of the men i come across are married or in relationships anyway.
radiodarcy Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 oh- - and if you want silly Buttercup - - i can no longer watch movies or television shows starring halle berry, monica bellucci or olivia munn. the the ex used to go on and on abt how hot they were and how he wanted to f**k the sh*t out of them. mind you this was after he started being distant - - emotionally and physically so it's not like i'm being overly sensitive. i understand men find other women attractive but hearing abt these women only did more to make my already low self-esteem plummet to subterranean depths.
SillyS Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 He ruined men for me. I'm sure it's temporary, but I have this guy at work that keeps wanting to hang out with me and flirts with me a bit. And yeah, I just can't stand it. I will try hard to snap out of it, but I'm just repelled by men right now. Don't flirt with me, don't look at me, and for the love of god-don't touch me. And again, not in the sense, that I think all men are evil. But a man just did that to me. Other than that; Canada, Hamburger Helper, and the song by Queen of the Stone Age Make it wit u.

I know what you mean with the men. I am not a man hating bitch but I have no desire to flirt either. When my friends gush about men and want me to go on dates I want to vomit.

I am sorry about your break-up. Please do not think that those women are better than you ! but I think the same way about my ex so it is normal. Urgh I now what you mean ! my ex had a thing for Blake Livley and towards the end I found pictures of her on his computer and he would always go on about how hot she was. I am a short dark haired girl and she is a amazon with legs to her freaking head and a smashing body.Made me feel sooo good about myself. Our ex's sound like gems...
radiodarcy Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 thanks Buttercup. i'm sorry about yours as well. they really do suck. but things will get better. it's been 6 months for me. and while i am feeling much better. i still have my moments. if anything the horrible way my ex treated me makes me that much more determined to stick to NC. oh and i'm a a short dark haired girl too. the other women are all dark haired but of course very voluptuous as i am not. i never had a desire to be voluptuous - -i lost quite a bit of weight some years back and was thrilled to go from a 36C to a 34B. my friends tell me i'm weird but i hated having boobs. lol but now i'm feeling like crap for not measuring up to standards that i never wanted to fit into in the first place because that's what the ex likes. how messed up is that?
mike588 Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 I know exactly how you feel. My ex. and I went to the movies alot, now I don't want to go anywhere close to a movie theater. Some stores that we used to frequent, well I don't go in those anymore etc etc. Whatever helps you heal then do it. I can say that once your over him and am in a new relationship none of those things will matter. Yes you will have a flashback, memories but it won't hurt so bad it at all. You may even laugh about it and say to yourself,, what was I thinking. Trust me, I've been thru it before.

Nohbody Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 At first, yes... but now not really. I couldn't even go eat in restaurants for a while because that was a special thing we'd do once a week and there was so much significance to eating out. Now... meh.
fauxleather Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Don't feel like a 12yo buttercup. I'm sure we can all relate. I for one will not look at ice-cream yogurt the same way ever again. And there are definitely some shopping malls and walkways and paths that will inevitably trigger memories of us. I ride a motorcycle as well so I'll probably miss her arms around me like how we used to go to silly places all over the country. I'll never look at certain movies and variety shows the same way I used to again since it just feels weird watching them without her by my side. So you see, it's not silly. I'm sure others can relate. But even though I miss all these good times and it's really a little saddening thinking about it, I know I should just move on and keep all these as good memories. You should too.
