WinterBreeze Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Ever since I can remember, I've been dealing with mental health issues. It affects me dearly every part of my life. I can never drive, have a lover, and get a job etc. because of my mental state. Is anyone here in a similar situation like me? Bottomline, I accept myself and live happily. Even if my life does suck.
bson1257 Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I guarantee that my mind is 1000x more ****ed up than yours.
Feelin Frisky Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Have you done everything there is to treat you particular condition? Medicine has made great advancements and new medications can be entirely effective on the full range of symptoms. But one thing everyone should know is that although a person may be classified with a particular mental health affliction, every person has a unique chemistry and there are no one-size-fits-all medications that work for everyone in precisely the same proportions. Dealing with mental health issues is always a process of experimentation by the sufferer with the help of his or her doctor. No one is experimenting on the patient--the patient MUST try different combinations of medications to find a self he or she will want to stabilize around. There are no tests that anyone can take to determine which brain chemicals--neurotransmitters--are out of function or proportion. So, medication is fundamentally a "try and see" proposition that takes time and a lot of serious self reflection. Everyone must be vigilant in their own recovery--there is something amiss which will return if the balancing help of medication is withdrawn. Truth be told, no human being is chemically "perfect" and we all have emotional hills and valleys because of genetic happenstance. Now more than ever there should be no stigma attached to reaching out and trying to find a medical solution which can not only potentially save your life but give you new utility to your friends, lovers, families and employers. Good luck all.
Trolly Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I don't want to undermine your mental state, but why no relationship? By the way, I have a lot of people in my life with behavioral health disorders. Your level headed acceptance of your mental state is pretty advanced. You sound like someone who has done quite a bit of work on yourself
Author WinterBreeze Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 ^ That's what my mental health doctor says and other things too. I appreciate all of you guys comments.

So, you NEED medication to keep it together. I hope you understand that and accept that. Many schizophrenics are paranoid and believe that the medication is somehow bad. That's just convenient denial that let's their illness off the hook to run wild and take down the people around them who care or just have to get along. Good luck. Do the right thing and be well.
