My wife and I have been married for 16 years. For the last month we have been fighting on and off. She won't let anything go. She brings up things I have done wrong from years ago. I really think she has a mental problem. I had to sleep in the garage for 3 days to get away from her. She blocked my truck in so I couldn't leave. I had to call the police to come and ask her to move her car. She would not. I had to cut down a section of privacy fence just to go to work. I said i do for better and worse. I don't believe in divorce, but I am at my witts end. Heck I am 40 years old and am having to spend the might at my parents house. I just don't know what to do anymore... Sorry I guess I am ranting more than anything.

Sorry you are having so much trouble in your marriage. It sounds like things are really tense with a lot of conflict. It sounds like your wife is really angry and reevaluating your relationship. She sounds like she really needs to talk and you may be shutting down and avoiding the conflict. Do you want to stay married? You should ask her what is wrong and set it in your mind to listen no matter what. Listen for as long as she talks and when and if she is finally spent then tell her thank you for being honest and letting me know how you feel. This will be a roller coaster because she sounds like she has a lot on her chest and women process as they talk. Do not react but tell her you want to think for a couple of days about what she has said and then you will respond if she is willing to sit and listen to you. After you have got out all you have to say. Then ask her to take a couple more days to process what you have said. You have so much conflict this will slow things down. Don't be surprised if she calms after getting things out. Most men will never do this...just listen and listen. If you don't say anything then just let her know I am listening.

Good luck if you get this?

Can you give some examples of the things you've been fighting over?

What 'issue' prompted her to block your truck?

Do you 2 have kids? Has she recently had a baby?

Has there been any history of cheating on your part or hers?

Is there any history of mental health issues in her family?

Is she on any new medications for any kind of health issues that might be causing her to be so angry and rageful?

How do you think you got here? Have the police been involved before?

My only advice is that you both seek counseling after 16 years you owe yourselves that. It sounds like there is a lot of anger and unresolved issues that need to be worked through.

In the past when things have been good how did you both treat each other? What do you actively do to show your love to your wife?
