Hey im coming from the breakup forum for i have gone through a breakup about a month ago. She broke up with me because she had the GIGS. WHile we were dating she had a crush on this guy at her work. He is 24 and she is 18. Since he went to the marines right out of highschool he is only going into his 3rd or 4th year of college. Me and my ex are currently going to the same college and the other guy goes to a college close to his home, so he commutes, and not that far from mine and my ex's college so he visits alot. So far i think he visited her everyday since we moved in, which was saturday. I am just curious as to what you guys think about her new relationship? I dont really know if they are "officially" dating, but they definately have a thing. Do you guys think this will last based on the age difference/distance? IMO i just find it really hard to see this lasting based on a 6 year age difference at such a young age and because of grounds of the breakup (G.I.G.S) Any input, advice, or opinions are greatly appreciated!

I had to look up GIGS (Grass Is Greener Syndrome).

I think it comes down to mentality. I've seen guys 33 years old who hook up with 18 year olds. WHY? Because the guys themselves act like overgrown teenagers, and an adult-minded woman wouldn't waste her time with these guys.

I feel for you that your girl dumped you, but even seeing how she's chasing an older Marine, I would probably think she's not fully "there", and will probably end up going through most of her 20s going from guy to guy, thinking she can find a better one with every turn. Seem some who get labeled "gets bored easily" when they do this.

In the end, it comes down to how they click, what they do, and how well they work out. I've seen RLs crash and burn when it was let's say an 18-19 year old guy dating a 16 year old, and then he turns 21 while she's still 18-19. He's going out all over the place and she cant...thus jealousy forms or even distance because he feels like he's not in her world anymore.

In any case, I have a feeling you're better off, and you should move on. Anyone who gets the GIGS isn't someone ideal for anyone.

Thankyou for your input/advice. I really appreciate it. I understand what you mean too. Me and her had dated for almost 2 years. Then right before college started she got GIGS. Its terrible to see her pretty much go straight into hanging out with that guy and basically starting a new relationship. The other thing i found weird is that the guy had been previously engaged. He had told my ex, while we were dating, that he and his ex fiance broke off the engagement like a month before him and my ex. Now i have a good friend who knows his ex fiance (small world huh) and she said that they were still engaged when my ex was in the picture and that she was part of the reason for the breaking off of the engagement. I find this pretty sketchy wether its true or not because it takes longer than a month to come off of a two year relationship where he was engaged. Although i am broken up with my ex, i still care for her and i feel this guy is not who she thinks he is.

I think your assessment of GIGS is bull. She's only 18, and has only been in one serious relationship in her life. Personally, I think she is doing the healthy thing of dating other people and seeing what the rest of the world is like.

As for your question of a 6 year age difference? I don't see that as an issue at all.

I think you're still getting over her, and that's understandable.

You should honestly look at letting her go. You're young, and you'll meet other women.

Go find yourself, make yourself happy in life, and let her go. Move on and you'll meet other women.

I know it's natural to keep up with exes and even hold a small hope things might reconcile, but it's not healthy.

Declare today as the first day of the rest of your life without her, and go find something to make you happy in this world. Buy a new outfit, go exercise, set a goal, take on a hobby, etc.

Before you know it, there will be a new woman in your life and the ex will be a distant memory.

I may be niave but i would have to disagree. I really dont see a 24 year old just getting out of an engagement to be with an 18 year old as appropriate. Now i know that there are instances where this age difference works and i respect that. But in all reality they are in two completely different stages in life. I feel that this big of an age difference at this young of age is a recipe for disaster. And yes i completely understand your reasoning for good for her for going out and dating for other ppl. But why end a perfectly good 2 year relationship to risk something with someone else that you literally just met? I dont see the reasoning in that. But if you do, please enlighten me. And also thankyou for your time to post and giving me your opinion. It means alot
