I recently red the thread on G.I.G.S. and believe that it applies in my most recent breakup. This thread indicated that breakups due to G.I.G.S. are some of the most likely ones to have a chance at reconciliation. The author emphasizes chance because oftentimes the dumpee will have moved on.

What other circumstances make dumpers second guess their decision? Though it's obviously a case-by-case basis, I am of the train of thought that men are more likely to second guess a dumping than women. What makes a woman second guess a dumping?

People please read the GIGS thread before asking. I didnt know what it was the first time I got on here.

What I wonder is why they say the dumper may regret it years down the line when in most cases they are checked out and moved on to begin with. It would seem that time will make them less attracted and detached from you to come back. I think that sometime the dumper doesnt come back even though they may want to because they know what they did was wrong and know it wont work out. Sometimes they have to much pride and dont try it. I also think that if anything in their life goes good then they wont look back, since success is perpetual. Maybe if they get dumped or disappointed in their relationships and are getting old they may get desperate to come back to you. Either way Im one of those who wants the dumper to regret what they did and try to come back.

How can you trust a man that has been checking out someone else? It's even worse when he was still dating you. GIGS is just for insecure men that don't know what they have till it's gone.

In my case, I did the dumping, but to be frank, my ex didn't do anything to stop me from breaking up with him. It's like he was waiting for me to do it. If he's now second guessing the break up, good for him. But what does that mean in action?

Why should a woman take a man back? For his sweet talk? His nice gifts? For me it would be for his sense of initiative and risk taking. And also for sometimes taking the lead and compromise when necessary. And making plans for the future. Those are some reasons why a woman would never let a man go.

Very good point Kamila. My ex dumped me, he wasn't happy with his life and thought it was because of our relationship. A couple of days later (we were together for three years!) he slept with someone else for a couple of days. Then he saw we again and then he broke things off with the other and he want to try and win me over again. But no matter how sweet he is now, if he doesn't prove that he can be dependable, hard-working and committed, there is no chance I'll ever consider getting back with him.
