I just joined this site today after lurking around and reading posts for about a month. The reason I joined is because I want to start opening my heart and mind again- I've been "shut down" emotionally for the past few years and it is not helping my interactions with men.

I'm in my 30's and a single mom, and while I am not bitter and I certainly don't hate men, I just feel like I've been through soooooo much trauma that it's hard to imagine I might ever find someone compatible for me.

And if I do, the real problem is going to be me- I have a really hard time opening up which is not good. So I guess I am here to practice with you guys, so that the next time I meet someone I actually like I will be used to talking about my feelings and not come across as having a huge wall up. Has anyone here had any success with improving their ability to communicate feelings with the opposite sex? Any suggestions on where to start?

I recommend you reading the articles at marriagebuilders.com to improve an existing relationship. Men are from Mars women from Venus is another good read.

It is important to realize that their are differences between the sexes and also there is differences in the the same sex. "The five languages of love" book illustrates the latter.

I am glad that you have identified a problem area in your circumstances. Many folk will just accept the circumstances and never improve.
