chphan Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I'm still new to this facebook thing but... is it normal for complete strangers to send you messages wanting to get to know you and make friends with you? Is this how people have 100+ friends on their facebook? Or are people just adding random people with facebook accounts to they can increase their friendslist number for some strange status thing?
Star Gazer Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I'm not exactly sure how many FB friends I have, but it's around 5-600, and I've met all but about 10 of them - those few are either LS members or good friends of good friends who just haven't met yet. The rest are legitimate people I've been real friends or good acquanitences with at some point in my life.
JHS Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 THere are people who try to get as many friends as they can. I have a friend (on FB) who hits up all my female friends. Be careful whom you allow to be friends. The client of a friend of mine accepted a friend request from someone who was investigating her insurance claim. On her FB page were photos of her bowling using her "bad" arm.
Yellow_Duck'y Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Anytime I see someone with hundreds of friends, my antenna goes up (unless they use it strictly for business/career purposes).

Between high school, college, study abroad, grad school, law school, professional organizations and charitable organizations, and hobbies, and then all the people I met through those people, I assure you it's quite easy to have a ton of FB friends.
thatone Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 yeah, i dated a college professor once (and no i'm not onegoal, i was over 30 at the time). she's pushing about 1400 friends on facebook. but if you think about it, she adds her new students every semester to keep in touch with them that way and after teaching a few years, well, there you have it, 1400 facebook friends.
Author chphan Posted August 19, 2011 Author Posted August 19, 2011 Hmm ok. I usually think having 2 or 3 good friends was good enough. lol. But damn when I see people with 100+ friends and more makes me think there's something wrong with my social life. That's why it makes me think if these are all legit friends.
strawberryshortstack Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I have 150+ friends on facebook. Some are good friends, some are acquaintances, classmates or otherwise people I don't know well. Some are family. I do not typically get friend requests from people I don't know in some way, and I do not send friend requests to people I don't know from somewhere, even if it's just through a mutual friend.
