I was just wondering what others think. You meet, fall in love, whatever, then break up. Seems like myself or everyone I know is in love or broken up. Then those who are broken up find love and those who were in love are now broken up..Its like its a cycle that doesnt stop!!! There seeks too be so many other things that eventually complicate and ruin relationships these days....So what does everyone think? Like what percent meet and stay together forever....especially those who go on to get married who actually make it out of dating.

I happen to know the scientific answer to that question. The Kinsey Institute did a 40 year long study on this and found that only 1 in 10 people develop a relationship where both sides of the couple stay in love with each other till the end of their life. That number is mind blowing to me, because 97% of all people will have been married at least once in their life before they die. That means that literally only 1 in 10 people get to experience reciprocated love that lasts to the end of their life.

Knowing that has me paying attention to very old couples that are still intensely in love with each other after many decades, as they've been doing it right in my opinion.

Ive always wondered about that myself. Nexus the study you cited is interesting. I somehow figured ten percent without any backing whatsoever!! I guess gambling on relationships would be better for casinos than the people actually in them. Ive heard casinos always win

Is that the end of the life of either partner? Or is the widowed person put in the 9/10 "not experiencing" it category?

I think its more like

casinos 90%

Gamblers 10%

I think the OP question as well as answer lie within those margins

Well death is always 100% to nothing odds. Best to not worry about statistics and enjoy what you have. I've loved and lost may times; however, I don't regret any of it. I have great memories from my previous relationships that far out way all the bad ones not to mention my beautiful children that continue to shower me in wonderful memories. I am looking forward to making more memories with someone new. Maybe my last relationship, maybe not. Enjoy what little time we have here appreciating the joys we have received and not dwell on the pain we have suffered, for you will only continue to relive it.

Nexus.. is the bold part correct? Did you mean to say only 1 in to 10 relationships get to experience reciprocated love that lasts to the end of their life ?

If a person has 10 relationships between age 20 to age 30 and gets married on the last one in their 30's, that means 9 of those relationships didn't work out, and 1 may last (and there is a 50% chance that the marriage too will not work out). It doesn't mean in those 9 failed relationships that those 9 ex's didn't go on to find marriage in a subsequent relationship.
