befreckled Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 The bf and I see each other once every 3 months, reason being we are about 26 hours by flight (one way!) from each other so weekend trips are out of the question. He was with me two weeks ago for three weeks and moved on to visit his parents in another country, 7 hours by flight away from me. I spotted a weekend deal but it would make sense if I could take the Monday off so I would be able to spend a full weekend with him. Sounds great, right? Except, I just started a new job a week ago and it's senior position so I would have to officially apply for the Monday off (I do have a saved day off from working on a holiday last week) I will risk them thinking "gee, this person is so new and she wants a day off already!" or even worse, completely rejecting me and leaving a bad impression. I jumped through a few hoops to get this new job and I don't want to sabotage this opportunity. On the flipside, once the bf leaves his parent's country, he will once again be 26hours away from me and the next time I'll see him it'd be Christmas or Jan 2012(!!!!!) What would you do?
madjac74 Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Pick love. A job will get over it. They may document it if the need ever arises to get rid of you but how long will you kick yourself for not going to be with him. Your focus at work could suffer from that alone. When my SO first moved away, I had to work the last day she was here and I pleaded for the time off. They ultimately declined me and I chose to be with her and not show up. They were unhappy with me of course but it didn't take long for me to regain their respect with the work I do and two years later I'm in my 15th yr with the company.
