When is romance appropriate?

Ok, the rundown.

Met this girl on Friday night at happy hour. It was her birthday and she was out with a friend. I bought her a drink, we conversed, flirted, exchanged numbers, then i left. Later that night, i had gone to another club and texted her to maybe meet up at a different club. She was sloppy drunk. I ended up taking her home since her license is currently suspended from DUI.

Supposed to get up with her tonight, but don't want to seem corny with romance. Should romance be applied in all cases? I'm guessing not with a happy hour/bar club girl. I was considering breaking out the typical flowers and candy before go out, but when is or when is that not appropriate?

Thanks for the advice. As you can see, been out of the dating game for a while. ;)

She has a recent DUI. And she got sloppy drunk the night you met her.

This is beyond red flag territory. She might as well have "alcoholic" tattooed on her forehead. I don't care that it was her birthday. She got wasted and let a stranger drive her home. This is bad news, not a budding romance.

You can do so much better than this. Take a close friend out for dinner tonight and have a good laugh about dating. Forget about this girl.

Well, did you ask her out or is this a hangout? I'm not a flowers and candy guy at all (at least early) but if that is your normal M.O. then I don't see why not. I'm not sure what kind of judgment you can hand down on her because she was in a bar, since you yourself were in the bar.

She'll be too drunk to notice or care.

Good points. Romance in this case will probably equal booze.

thanks for the replies everyone.

yeah i see the writing on the wall, but im not trying to get with her in a "relationship" sense. So maybe that answers that. Romance may not be necessary.

Romance is something very different. So, you're asking if it's right to look like you're a certified suitor by greeting her with the traditional flowers/candy. I don't think you should go that far because you may be setting yourself up a bit for a let-down. She was hammered the times you interacted before and she will feel very different when sober. She may feel remorseful and if you come on with flowers like that it may be even more reason for her to run away from you. You need to make sure she is still interested while sober and feel out how to proceed. Is she really interested, or is she on a bender and just reaching for anything or anyone? Others have branded her an alcoholic, that may be true or she may just have been the unluckiest first-time drinker and driver who also just happened to get hammered on her birthday. That's a stretch. Proceed with some caution and be sure to take cues from her while she's sober to know how much to throw into you meeting with her. That really isn't something one should leave to "texting". Good luck.
