TaintedHeart Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Ok so I tryed an online dating site and have been talking to a nice guy for four days, we have been talking on the phone every night and seem to get on. However, he lives two hours away from me and lives in a very upmarket area, is very educated, went to a top uni and has very strong morals ect. I on the other hand don't live in an upmarket area and haven't been as fortunate as he has with backgrouds, education, ect ect, you get my drift? So he wants to meet up, he doesn't want to let our converstions 'Run dry' which I agree with but the question is, shall I meet him or are we from completely different worlds? And how long should you wait before you meet someone from the net? I'm not putting myself or my family down, my parents have done a fantastic job and have always worked but I feel like I'm not really good enough for him.. What are your thoughts?
Lobster29 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 In my opinion it's a bad idea. Not because of the differences you mention but because he lives 2 hours away! I had a relationship with someone I met online who lived 1 hour away. It was stressful. At one point I lived with him and his family, then we split, got back together and I moved to be with him but got dumped as soon as I signed the tenancy! Q me stranded in a strange town, no friends, minimum wage, a flat to pay for and surrounded by everything that reminded me of him. Obviously this is just MY experience. But I wouldn't want to get close to someone I met online who lived that far away again. Everything is a lot harder! Trust especially in my case....he was free most the week to carry on scouting dating sites!
sm1tten Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 If you are having good phone conversations and seem to have things in common, the things that you mentioned as different may not matter. Is he unaware of your background being different from his? That said, I wouldn't wait long to meet up, as the false intimacy that online and phone conversations can lead to may evaporate in the flesh. I would be cautious about dating someone that far away, as well.
Casablanca Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 In my opinion it's a bad idea. Not because of the differences you mention but because he lives 2 hours away! This....dont every worry about some differences like you mentioned...it is what is on the inside that counts...plus it's fun to get to experience a different walk of life
justme37 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I agree with Lobster....2 hrs away is pretty far and makes everything a lot harder
Author TaintedHeart Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 The distance isn't actually a huge issue for me. I've had long distance relationships in the past and it was never a problem. But him being from a well off family concerns me..

You haven't even met the guy and you're already over-analyzing your way out of it? Reason #453 why I'm done with that online dating garbage.

FitChick Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I live on another continent and he sounds just like my cuppa. Send him my way! Which website was he on, by the way? The quality of men seems better than most of the other websites out there.
