fortyninethousand322 Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 So a relatively new friend of mine (who's friends with some good friends of mine) is having a birthday get together tonight. Although I'd love to go, I'm not going to because a) I have to be up early tomorrow since I'm going to the beach for the weekend with my family and b) the bar he's having it at is about an hour away. Even though there's some cute girls going (one of whom asked me specifically if I was going) I can't justify driving such a long way especially when I have to get up early tomorrow. And I think the distance is taking its toll on my friendship with the others in my group. Slowly but surely they have stopped inviting me to anything except basketball. We used to go to movies, go out to eat, etc. Now, none of that. I met these guys in college and we've been pretty good friends but I feel kind of isolated now. I've also had a hard time reconnecting with my high school friends (the ones still in the area) so I really have no idea where to go from here in terms of cultivating friendships.

What are you like 22? You really don’t have the time and energy to drive an hour away to a bar to hang out with all your friends and some cute girls you know and still wake up early and go to the beach with your family? lammmeeeee

Anyway, to the OP. I know you live in the D.C. area like me and driving around here can be a real fun time so I completely understand where you're coming from on that. I will use any excuse I can not to drive around here if I can avoid it. I'm not going to be harsh and say you're lame. It's a real tough thing, choosing between going out late at night on a long drive to see friends (and maybe meet new ones) vs staying at home and getting some sleep. Besides, you don't even drink so it's not like you're missing out on anything major. Keep your chin up, you'll be fine.

I'm as hot as a thousand suns I'm 23, but no longer on the market if that's what you're getting at. I'm engaged and will be married to a very wonderful man in the spring.
