In a response to a previous thread I stated a possible reason men prefer younger women is that most women IMO age worse than men. Yeah there are exceptions to the rule and some men age badly and I don't want offend the ladies but what do you all think?

Depends on the woman, depends on the man.

Both my parents aged well, but my Mom is older than my Stepfather, and she still looks 10 years younger than he does.

Like I said there are exceptions but I feel as a whole, women overall age worse. Im 29 goning on 30 so the women (most) on my facebook that I went to school with LOOK like they are in their 30's and the men (most) look like they are still in their mid to late 20"s. I pretty much look my age so can't be bummed but can't be too happy about that either lol! (If my hairline wasnt receding I'd still look 23 lol!)

I honestly think it's about the same, both men and women tend to look their age. Of course there are exceptions when some just look younger (or older). I tend to notice if the person is good looking/takes good care of him/herself before I notice anything else. If the person presents themselves poorly overall who cares how old they are.

I think men and women both have equal chances of remaining youthful. Youth is often a reflection of health and happiness anyway.

Now that I'm over 40, I have noticed how youthful an age it is. I thought I'd post a picture of myself to give people a sense of what 40 is like. The photo was taken a year ago when I was 40. I think I look pretty normal for someone my age, although people say I look younger.

I'll take down the photo in a few days. I don't feel comfortable leaving it up too long.

Remember your sunscreen kiddies. Take it from me, it's your skin that will be the tell tale sign of age.

You look fantastic, Cee.

Never below SPF 30, even in winter :D

Wow, I'd have to say A LOT of my friends parents the husband aged better, but I think that is because the wives LOVED tanning and got terrible wrinkles, also they loved to bleach and abuse their hair so that didn't help. My parents though both have aged really well, at 50 they look younger, my dad though is amazing at taking care of his skin lol. He washed his face and out on lotion and always wore SPF. My mom also always put on plenty of mousturizer all the time , but she also had an oily complextion so she didn't wrinkle much at all. I think now though it is pretty even since now women know the risks of sun exposure and there are skin care lines for men.

Men are ugly to begin with (imo), but men are able to have sex and reproduce well into their 70's-80's. Women are not. This is an evolutionary trait to seek out women who are still able to have children.

If I'm attracted to a female, I'll be attracted to her well into her 30's possibly 40's maybe even 50's just as much as when she was in her 20's. You're still the same person

Depends on the woman... I am 41 and I have aged really well, and I take very good care of myself.

Men that are my age look like my father's age.

I don't get this. If you say "how I imagine an average 41 year old man looks as old as I imagine an average 65 year old man", then clearly your scale of reference is useless and your ability to think logically isn't very well developed.

That being said, I think the op is correct. Women in their early 20s are at their hottest, women in their late 20s are still hot, women in their early 30s are still ok, older than that, we don't really care. So if you are 50 and look like you're 40, men still wouldn't care.

The reason is biological: our brains evolved to what it is now at a time when most women died in their 40s and were becomming less fertile halfway 30s. It's evolutionary not a good thing to be attracted to a woman who can't reproduce anymore, so our brains are hardwired to not find older women attractive. Sorry girls, sad but true. But then again, you have your 20s where you'll be able to do the picking to make up for it.

Yeah. This is bad biology and a lot of made-up stuff. Believe whatever you want, but don't blame it on science. What you wrote is simply not scientifically correct.

Brains are not hardwired to find "younger" or "older" women more attractive. There is no such data.

I think what you're trying to say is that some animals can detect when females of their species are in heat, which requires being in young-bearing years. However, of course, those animals don't differentiate between younger or older, as long as they're still experiencing estrus. That means up to menopause, in humans. Other than that, it doesn't much matter, if you're going strictly by biology, which is what you're claiming to do.

Societally speaking, of course, attraction is determined in a somewhat different manner - which is not biological and thus varies from generation to generation. But I feel compelled to point out that at no time was the age of death different for men than it was for women - except that in olden days, perhaps, women died before their time due to childbirth, while men died before their time due to warfare.

In other words, this is bad history, too.

Seriously, stop it. You can have an opinion, but don't claim it as fact. That's like nails on a chalkboard; why must people make up facts to support their beliefs? This is not science. So you don't think older women are attractive. Well, that's all you had to say.

If you believe that youth is beauty for women and experience is attractive for men, then you're going to say that women age worse than men.

But biologically speaking, the pairing of 40 years and older men and women under 30, creates significant increase in the risk of autism in male progeny.

What is with all the hot 41 year olds on LS? Do I need to start dating 41 year old women? ;)

Men are like wine - some turn to vinegar, but the best improve with age.

When I went to a school reunion at 35, the girls I had gone to grammar school mostly looked fantastic. A lot of the guys looked like hell--at a mere 35 no less. (I was a big hit btw.)

I don't buy the "evolutionary" theory. I know lots of men late 30s and up who ended up marrying women their same age, or a year or two younger or older. Some of them had been married before and divorced, others married for the first time. Most couples I see on the street look about the same age. I know a guy who was 42 who married a 52 year old woman.....if it was a 52 year old man marrying a 42 year old woman, no one would think twice about it.

and NOPE I don't agree that men age better than women. Some men like to tell themselves that to "scare" women on boards like this with condescending comments like "sorry ladies but men age better and they all want younger women"

Like I said I prefer a few years younger or my age max but I am still VERY attracted to women in their 30's and 40's, hell even some late 40's early 50's catch my eye. I take pride in my taste in women like any man should. Now I know men can age bad too. I ran into an old hs football teammate a couple of weaks ago and DAM did he age bad.

It depends.

There are some men who are balding badly in their 20s and 30s and look far older than their years. You don't see too many women with receding hairlines.

Meh. I know plenty of men who look like my grandpa at 35. I don't buy the biological theory. It's mostly made up by men who can't get a woman of any age. Most men will be happy to date women of their own age. Only douches really exclusively date 5-10 years younger women.

I'm pretty sure all you women are aging worse than I am. I am looking pretty damn good these days.

I'm nearly 41 (one week to go) and spent quite a lot of time online dating. The majority of men around my age and older looked like they could pass for my dad, although that's because I look younger. Men do age just as badly as women, although they like to think otherwise.

I agree green tea. I'm 32 and wouldn't date older than 35. Even that is a stretch. Balding men are a major turn off. I have always dated men that are younger than me. I wouldn't be opposed to dating older if men looked good, but most simply don't :(

I know. I had to buy you alcohol cos the bartender didn't believe you were over 21. :p

When you get to 50, there's a huge range in the appearance of guys around 50. Some look like (and are) grandpas, others are quite youthful. Sadly, in online dating, more looked like the former category. But 50 yo men have the ability to look quite yummy. Heck even Tom Cruise is 49 now.
