SmileFace Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 start smoking - nicotine is one of the most powerful appetite suppresants known to man I saw you made a post in this thread from the main board... I knew it was going to be good..lmfao
quankanne Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 I think my body knows sugar will give me an insant boost of energy (only to come crashing down later - wah), so it craves it. and once you get into the cycle, it's hard to break. As a diabetic, it's hell having a sweet tooth! one thing that helps is making sure I eat protein, which curbs the sweet tooth for some reason. Not a big fan of the protein shakes when there are other equally healthy choices, like Greek yogurt (not dannon or yoplait, but oikos, which has a VERY high protein content for the small amount you eat) or the Cacique yogurt drinks (also high protein content compared to its counter-part). other thing to do is NOT force yourself to wait a long time between meals, because your body then goes into a "starvation" mode that fights natural weight loss. Eat something every 3 or so hours to keep your metabolism working constantly. I think the nutritionist explained it as keeping your X-calorie diet but breaking it up into smaller portions and eating them throughout the day. as for fighting cravings, the best thing I've found is dark chocolate. A little bit goes a loooonnnnnggggggg way – 2-3 dove darks trick my brain into thinking I've had more than just those two or three pieces. Gum also is a good way to keep your mouth busy

Gum also is a good way to keep your mouth busy Thanks, Quankanne. I was looking into lots of different smoothie recipes last night and there are plenty that use yogurt, so I could get protein and other nutrients that way (I don't like eating yogurt itself, the consistency is just...eeeewww for me). Or I could try protein powder. I'll experiment. I also don't eat enough throughout the day, so I'm going to start breaking my meals up into smaller portions. Breaking long-established habits will be difficult but I'm looking forward to making positive changes.
Author tigressA Posted August 21, 2011 Author Posted August 21, 2011 I had a pretty bad slip-up the other day at work when I had a chocolate-chocolate-chip muffin from the cafe. I had an unpleasant reaction to the sugar rush, and that really put me off. BF and I went grocery shopping today and I made my first smoothie--strawberries, blueberries, ice and vanilla soy milk, with a touch of honey. Sooooo good. Our fridge is pretty packed with fruit now. I could get used to this.
