Ethan Hawke in the film Before Sunrise: "You know the worst part of someone breaking up with you? It's when you remember how little you thought about the people you broke up with, and you realize that that's how little they're thinking about you. You'd like to think that you're both in all this pain, but really, they're like, 'Hey, I'm glad you're gone!'"

This is so brilliant because it's so true.

Ouch :(

That just completely obliterated the little self esteem I had left :(

Great quote, I remember it jumping out at me when I first watched Before Sunrise when I was seventeen. The other memorable line in that movie: "Isn't everything we do in life a way to be loved a little more?" Maybe not everything, but I was surprised when I started thinking about it how many of my life activities were and still are basically an attempt to make me a more loveable person and make it easier to find and keep love.

That quote is bullsh*t. I've broken up with people in the past - and i've never felt like 'hey, i'm glad you're gone' - even with the *******s. There will always be a part of me that feels something for them - they were part of my life once, and I appreciate the time we spent together even now. I broke up with one guy I was completely in love with - and I spent every day apart from him regretting my decision. Breaking up with someone definitely does not mean not caring about that person. Infact, often the 'dumper' has a tougher time than the 'dumpee'. The 'dumper' has the responsibility of knowing that they finalised the break up - they made the decision, thus, there will always be an element of 'what if I didn't make the decision?' for them retrospectively. The 'dumpee' often finds comfort in knowing that ultimately they did not make the choice the break up. They had no control or contribution to the situation in which they find themselves.
