I'm an animal lover and also vegan, it's a big part of who I am and my morals, and I won't date non veggies as we'd just be too incompatible, I'd be trying to get him to stop eating meat/change his views which isn't an ideal r/ship

A love of animals isn't gender related, my partner loves animals and my ex even more so.

I love vegans. My ex was one until I ate him.

I love animals :) I couldn't be with a guy who didn't like animals. I prefer a guy with no pets, cause my cat is not an animal lover like her mama  but he must at least LIKE animals, especially my kitty! That's not hard though, even people who claim to not like animals like my cat, I swear  My cat is a good people-picker, as well. I honestly do not trust people she doesn't like (it happens rarely that she doesn't like someone!)

I was just trying to remember who started that thread so I could quote it. :)

ES, I think it all depends on how important animals are to you.

My guy is a real life version of Dr Dolittle! :bunny:

When it comes to animals he has a very special gift. He loves them and they all just 'take to him' which, in my book, speaks volumes.

When I first met him my friends asked me what was the one thing about him that made him so outstanding - I said the way he is with animals.

There's no gender bias - you just have to decide for yourself if a guy's love of, or tolerance for animals is within a range that you're happy with.

Love it, LittleTiger.

Animals feature prominently in my life, by choice and by chance.

So far this year, I've had to rescue 6 baby birds over the course of a week, a baby raccoon, a baby possum, and a feral cat.

What's with me always stumble upon animals in distress? *shrug*

As to men and animals,

for some reason, I'm always really impressed to learn when a single man has a cat. A dog would be less of a surprise but a cat...bonus points!

I wonder if a guy doesn't like animals - does this point out to large incompatibility? I generally meet guys that don't care much for animals. I wonder if this is a gender related trait...

No, not a gender related trait. I respect animals well enough but i don't own them, want them in my home, and I certainly don't eat them. I could never be romantically compatible with someone who loved animals and HAD to have them around. My fiancé likes animals, and his kids love animals. (they keep their animals at their mom's house though). It just eeks me out but I don't hold it against them. Heh

So as an animal lover, you definitely want to inquire about their preferences on this. We're not all obliged to own and cuddle animals!!

Ha! I love the bolded. :) I am a pet lover (well, dogs and cats), but one of my pet peeves are pet lovers who either "can't imagine" someone not liking pets or being suspicious of anyone who doesn't like pets, and I run into this attitude a lot. Honestly, I'm suspicious of people who are suspicious of people who don't like pets. :lmao:

Also, my Dad is a pet lover who always had tons of pets, and he's a terrible husband (versus the example of my Stepfather being the best guy I know and not liking pets). So I definitely wouldn't say it's any way to judge character. YMMV.

I love animals and not only could I not be with someone who didn't like animals, I think in order to be compatible, he'd have to pretty much love them and love having them around. If not, there will be conflict because I refuse to live a life without animals.

Although on the other end of the extreme, I couldn't live with a hoarder either. I can't stand the people who pick up every single animal and wind up not being able to take care of themselves or their pets.

So any man I'm with should be an animal lover, but he has to be sane about it.

Yes is does point out a huge incompatibility. Its not a gender related trait though.

I think you first have to define what it means to "love animals." There are plenty of people who love having a pet, but still eat animals for dinner, for instance.

Once you've defined what "loving animals" means to you, then you can determine whether it's important for your SO to share the same values.
