FitChick Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I am specifically interested in UK sites but I'm sure this happens with lots of dating websites. For example, I know that The Times, The Telegraph, The Scotsman and a classical music website (don't know the name) all have the same datebase but they all charge different monthly subscription rates. I think The Scotsman is the cheapest of that bunch. So it's good to join the cheapest one, right? Does anyone know which other dating sites have the same members as the Guardian's Soulmates? I noticed their members are totally different to the ones above. I don't want to pay their high price if I can get the same access for less money elsewhere. So now you know why you see the same people over and over on most websites!
Roman Griffen Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Most of the higher end pay sites don't share the data, hence, the price. The more reputable ones don't share.

As I live over on the other side of the pond, I cannot answer--I have no idea.
Author FitChick Posted August 1, 2011 Author Posted August 1, 2011 (edited) Most of the higher end pay sites don't share the data, hence, the price. The more reputable ones don't share. So now you know their dirty little secret. Those are high end sites (above) by the way. The members are generally educated professionals. One charges £32/month and another £19. See what I mean? Another example I forgot about is match.com and datingdirect.com. I think they are the same price but if anyone knows of a sister site for less, post it here, please. On another thread someone posted about something similar. I want names! I was a member of one dating website where the sales pitch was about how they were unlike all the other websites that sell their databases to each other and how they had genuine members. It's standard practice in the industry. That particular website went out of business I think because they had so few members. Smaller niche sites have a hard time competing because dating is, let's face it, a numbers game. The next time I subscribe I plan to ask everyone who emails me which website they actually signed up with. Edited August 1, 2011 by FitChick
