Upon First Meeting Someone..How can U tell If the Attraction Is Mutual?/And Do you Guys Believe In Soulmates??

From a spiritual perspective, I don't think so. But I'm not a fan of metaphysical constructs.

From a scientific perspective, I wouldn't refer to that person as a SM, but yes, I think that they exist on some level. With a bit of lawyer-talk thrown in.

It has to do with pheromones, genetic diversity of offspring, and all sorts of other complex physiological cr*p. Psychological interactions and chemistry...probably some Freudian stuff too (even if he did pluck most of it out of his *ss).

So yeah. I'd say that certain people, would be able to easily connect with certain other people extremely well. Maybe the term should be Soul Mates, instead of just the singular.

I believe that it may be possible for two people to initially connect and 'sync' so well that that could generate additional attraction, but "soulmates" implies that there is not only an amazing physical attraction but there is some innate sense that an LTR would be great as well. For guys, unless you are in the very top echelon of looks/charisma it is virtually impossible to win both the attraction and relationship games. It seems from LS posts that women view potentials as falling into one of two categories:

1. Great looking, great in bed, unconcerned about whether or not he has relationship skills

2. Average looking, mediocre in bed, but with decent to very good relationship skills

I strongly suspect that guy #1 will find a lot of women who think he is their "soulmate". Choosing guy #2 is simply considered settling . . .

Yes, Guy #1 (or Gal #1) will have alot of people PROJECTING their relationship fantasies (aka "soulmate") onto them. Ever read the book "Blink"? Talks about the Warren Harding Factor... how beautiful people are perceived as being nicer, smarter... whatever, than they actually are. I was taken in by that when I was younger... not so much anymore.

And about Guy #2? Odds are actually BETTER that, if he is very good in relationship skills, he's gonna ROCK in the bedroom too.

Men with poor relationship skills tend to have poorer technique (cause it's all about them and their needs) and aren't as sharing/receptive or even all that fun in bed.

... but about the soulmate question.

No, I don't think it exists. I think it is a figment of people's imagination and something invented by Hollywood. In fact, I tend to avoid dating anyone who has those fantasies/expectations. Those are the ones who tend to dump people the second they lose that relationship "high"... without doing anything to actually keep that "high" going.... Fundamentally lazy people who rely on their hormones for the most part.

To me, they are sort of the equivalent of drug addicts.

Hi OP, welcome to LS :)

I offered my perspective in this thread.

I'm still of the opinion that longevity is still the arbiter of the ultimate soul-mate. If one believes in spirituality (the 'soul'), most often this spirit is believed to be immortal. Compare the 'connection' under examination with that potential and decide whether it is meaningful or not. Good luck.

You know it's mutual when it seems this person is really making an effort to get to know you and be around you.

I don't believe in soulmates. I don't believe we're all "halves" of a complete soul. I believe everyone is responsible for their own personal happiness and fulfillment. A significant other is just an added bonus to your life...it shouldn't be your life.
