chuzzbug Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I have been living apart from my ex wife of 9 years for 14 months. We've acknowledged that the marriage is over for the last 8 months. Not a day goes by without my thinking about her. But a strange thing happened yesterday. It was Jul 20th and I realize that I forgot her birthday, Jul 17th. We keep minimal contact, largely practical around wrapping things up, and I wasn't planning to acknowledge her birthday even if I had remembered. But not remembering - wow. That shook me up. I obviously want to move forward - who would not - but this clear and obvious sign that I am letting go scared me. This is how it happens, I guess. First you forget the birthday, then how she smells, how she feels, the shape of clothes on her body, her body, her face. Her name? It's a big world out there. And without her, very very big.
