WeatherMe Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 My ex girlfriend had a real thing for mechanics, never got it... Maybe it was simply because she didn't know what it looked like under the hood of her car. :/
Queen Zenobia Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 indeanaplolis You really have quite a bit of time on your hands.
Finch Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Trimmer gives the OP a hard time (though bringing up some valid points), and couplehundred takes the jabs and responds without malice and with great aplomb. That's sexy! Also, he'll soon have a boat. Extra-sexy. (I also laughed out loud at his response to the troll.) Sexiest profession: Chocolatier. This made me laugh. Seriously though, the professions I find sexiest are ones that show a certain level of education, skill and/or seriousness. Pilot, professor, physician, author, photographer, firefighter. A broad range, but for me they each have that 'sexy streak'. Unsexy professions exist as well. My top unsexy profession being someone working in government. It does not inspire me to rip my clothes off in the slightest.
Author couplehundred Posted July 25, 2011 Author Posted July 25, 2011 OP, Loveshack is a discussion forum, not your psych lab. Are you offering compensation for those attempting to meet the arbitrary requirements of your "poll"? Be aware that you're arguably violating Loveshack's TOS by using its published content for a commercial purpose.Ok, sorry. Go ahead and report my post if you want to. I wasn't hiding anything, I was asking a question because I am doing some research. I was never going to quote anyone anyway. Just trying to get some opinions. Also, if I am "arguably" violating the TOS then i also am "arguably" not violating them also...Right? I guess I will offer compensation if that's what it takes to have my thread allowed. You all are invited out on my boat next summer for participating in my "psych lab". Sound good? See, now that I know a little more about you personally, I feel bad for busting your chops. That background was actually more interesting than your original question. And nice job, you took the next joke I was going to throw at you, which was that the sexiest profession either clearly is, (or clearly isn't - I hadn't decided yet) being a freelance writer. Actually, you are a good storyteller, because I kinda wanna do ya right now - and I'm a dude! Excellent - go for it and good luck with it! You should try to get more money by offering a sidebar: "Men say sexiest profession for women is:" I'll start off with: bass player (electric). You misspelled "booger." Good thing all other problems and irritations on Loveshack have long since been solved, so we have lots of extra moderators sitting around just waiting to jump on this one. Seriously, though, at least the dude was right up front with his agenda. How many times can you read through an OP to be able to tell that someone's trying to complete a sociology homework assignment or a psych research paper. I've sent my answers to the OP via PM, and hereby state that I give him my permission to use them without restriction, so those answers were not "published" on the site, not subject to any copyright issues, and he's in the clear. I really want to see him in that boat! Thanks for the back up Trimmer! She is a beautiful craft. 27 FEET OF PURE SEXY....
Sanman Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I have no formal education when it comes to writing but, I am a fairly good story teller. I really just fell into this job. I am a regular on a racing forum and I organized a team of misfits from it to enter a novelty car race. (This was a 24 hour endurance race for amateurs with 500 dollar cars that are decorated and driven by costumed idiots with no real racing experience.) Anyway, I wrote a story about our adventure just for fun, and it was one of the most viewed threads the forum had had all year. Six months later we raced another one of these events and I wrote about that one too. Again, my story created quite a bit of traffic on his website so he hit me up and asked me to write for his news section. I told him I was not qualified for it but he insisted I was. I kept insisting "I am not a writer" and he basically told me he didn't care and explained all writing is, is story telling combined with spell check. Then he offered me a thousand bucks plus expenses to go to a race and come back with a story about the specialty tires they use for that particular format. So, I did it. That was 3 years ago. Since then I have quit my day job and I do this full time. I have been sent all over the country and met tons of interesting people and then when I get home, I write a story about it. I also get to do all this with one of his staff photographers who has become one of my closest friends. It is a pretty cool life I am living running around the planet with a buddy of mine and getting paid to go to races. I am also passionate about it so women want me (Rolls eyes) See, now I want to know what Lemons team you put together as I am trying to put one together as well. Too bad I can't PM you yet.
Star Gazer Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 The sexiest profession is the one he's passionate about. This. I'd also add one that he's successful in, however success is measured in his chosen profession.
Author couplehundred Posted July 25, 2011 Author Posted July 25, 2011 See, now I want to know what Lemons team you put together as I am trying to put one together as well. Too bad I can't PM you yet. we race a 1984 300zx done up like KITT from Knight Rider. we have raced all the California races, one in Texas and one in AZ. I think we have a total of seven races in that crapcan. If you put a team together, track me down. I am a SPAMBASSADOR for Lemons now and have lots experience with the series. I can give ya plenty of advice...
threebyfate Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 There isn't one. In the past, I avoided dating lawyers like the plague even though I have friends who are lawyers. Well, guess what? I ended up marrying one and he's a wonderful man!
tami-chan Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I gravitate towards lawyers-successful ones. I was married to one and now dating another. There is something about their bull$hit that is funny and attractive.
D-Lish Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 The smartest dude I ever date was a mechanic. He knew everything about everything.
wezol Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 The smartest dude I ever date was a mechanic. He knew everything about everything. I can attest to this in my own experience. I'm not a certified mechanic, but do many things when it comes to vehicles. My ex-w loved that I could fix anything, when I had no formal education in it. It's just the way the mind works when it comes to people in that field, and a thirst for knowledge that not strait books, on how things work. Pulling them apart and fixing them, even on your first time. It also came down to not being able to afford to have it fixed Personally, I never felt comfortable working on something unless I knew how everything worked around it as well, and it just added to knowledge. My ex-w hated that I was in the Military and hated that I was a Paratrooper, I never found out the exact reason. Maybe she didn't find it sexy to begin with, or maybe all the bullsh*t that came with the job took away from the sexiness after a while. Everyone has their opinions on what a sexy profession is, and I think a majority are opinions looking from the outside. Every job, no matter it's sexiness, has it's crap that goes along with it that you only learn about by being around it. Either doing it, or dating/being married to someone who does. To me, and I'm not a woman, think that anyone who loves their job and is always trying to better themselves in that field, is "sexy".
MrNate Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Why has no one said 'male stripper' yet? This is lame.
KR10N Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I actually find men with more manly professions very attractive. Mechanics, construction, police officer. Something about men in uniform. List goes on.Oh, I agree!
threebyfate Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Why has no one said 'male stripper' yet? This is lame.Ever watched a male stripper? They are the epitome of lame and so not sexy.
OliveOyl Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I think detective is a sexy profession. Especially if they wear the trench coat and hat. http://fictionwriters.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/detectivejpg.gif Something about making lots of inquiries....

What if you wear that and you're NOT a detective? Does it just become creepy?
Kamille Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Couple hundreds, I understand you want to write a puff piece about which professions women like, hopefully one that will make you lots of money. But I have a question: 1) who's the intended public of your piece? I'm weary of these "puff" pieces that stereotype both women and men, such as the kind one finds on askmen. Some people read those like they're the bible, and then come on here and complain about how "Women only like Firefighters" and "how can you get a woman if you're not a firefighter?", etc etc. This is my way of saying I think you're forcing an honest and varied public to limit their responses to stereotypes, stereotypes that are then going to fuel the fire against this very public. You may not know this forum very well, but the people who do will recognize exactly what I'm talking about. We have a lot of posters here who blame all their problems on how superficial women are. You know what they cite? Blogs or puff pieces published on the internet. How will you avoid turning women's preferences into a stereotype of "what women want"? Yes, I'm philosophizing. There's a reason we do philosophy. It makes the world a better place.

Any study conclusion should and is encouraged to be taken with a grain of salt since if you read study conclusions, they do explain what they haven't tested for might have strong impact on conclusions. To meander down that road a bit more, there appear to be many studies that strongly reflect confirmation bias.
snug.bunny Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Oh, I agree! Agree with this too. I am not attracted to men who have high profile careers, drive flashy cars and dress in flashy outfits. I just spent the weekend with my female friend and the man that she's dating (he's a millionaire). Driving around for the weekend in a Maserati, eating at posh restaurants, and throwing $10,000K down on a piece of art at the drop of a hat, was neat to be around/experience, but, not for me. I prefer men who get their hands dirty versus manicured.

GorillaTheater Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Yeah, nothing terribly sexy about being a lawyer. Except to the occasional woman who's overly grateful about having their butts saved from some sticky situation. That's when you follow the sound advice of the penguin in "Madagascar": smile and wave. Reminds me of one of my kids being asked what his dad does. In a bored voice: "Oh, he's a lawyer." Then, brightly: "But sometimes he works weekends on the rescue crew at the Speedway!"
