couplehundred Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 My name is Dan and I occasionally work as freelance writer. Currently I am researching an article about dating. More specifically, I am researching "online dating". Without getting to wordy, I just want to find out what women (target market being 24-50) find to be the most desirable profession for a potential date/boyfriend/lover/husband to have. Thank you in advance for you responses. Your answers will help me pay my bills.
bac Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 any profession with income of $200.000 and more will be very sexy.
Rinas Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 any profession with income of $200.000 and more will be very sexy. I actually find men with more manly professions very attractive. Mechanics, construction, police officer. Something about men in uniform. List goes on.
Taramere Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Working for himself. I like the entrepreneurial spirit.
musemaj11 Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Its not the profession. Its the money. A doctor who does volunteer work with little pay as a full-time job won't get any attention from the ladies either.
Kamille Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 The sexiest profession is the one he's passionate about.

Or are you just generalising / exaggerating for effect? While I agree that money is is attractive, I don't think it's quite as overpowering as you say.

Queen Zenobia Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 The sexiest profession is the one he's passionate about. This. My fiance's an economist. Extremely sexy, even if he doesn't make loads of money.
Janesays Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Never been attracted to a 'profession.' Been attracted to men, regardless of profession, though.
tigressA Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Never been attracted to a 'profession.' Been attracted to men, regardless of profession, though. I agree with this. Though I will say I have been inexplicably drawn to engineers over the last couple of years.
zengirl Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I've always thought "architect" was a sexy career for some reason, but I've never met a sexy architect. Really, there is no sexy career IMO. I tend to date engineers and programmers.
oaks Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Money for a man is like beauty for a woman. Its not everything but it is a very major factor. Ahh, good. Yes, I hoped you were exaggerating.
USMCHokie Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I've always thought "architect" was a sexy career for some reason, but I've never met a sexy architect. Really, there is no sexy career IMO. I tend to date engineers and programmers. Ted Mosby, architect.
zengirl Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Ted Mosby, architect. Well, he's not REAL, but in the early years of HIMYM before I realized what an emotionally unavailable douche he is under that romantic exterior, Ted Mosby is precisely my type. I would laugh at his "Main" Lobster jokes and bad puns. Other sexy TV architects include Rick from Once and Again.
iris219 Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I find creative, artsy professions sexy, as these guys tend to be very passionate. I've dated musicians, artists, and filmmakers. Also, there's something about self-employed business owners. I rarely date guys with regular 8-5 jobs--not sure why. I got asked out by an attractive and locally well-known meteorologist last night. His profession seems cool, but the well-known part could get old fast.
Cee Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I think that would be a fun article to write is to ask the occupations of people they dated and what did they learn. They fun part about dating someone in a different field is learning their world. I know your article must be about 10 Sexiest Jobs, but maybe you can slip in some common sense advice for the many people simply working an average job or are unemployed. Here's an anecdote for the article. My cousin married a man who has a really sexy job. He is a photographer for National Geographic and an eminent entomologist. Yes, he's a bug expert. His job is high on adventure in that he examines caves in rain forests and the far reaches of the world. Also, he has such an eccentric job he is a minor celebrity. He been on the Colbert Report and David Letterman and other national talk shows. They bring him on whenever they want to talk insects. Hope this helps in your writing. I'm a writer too, so I feel your pain.
AmEricanWomann Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Probably the "protective" professions. The one's where men (and woman) put their lives on the line for other people. Police officers, Firefighters, search and rescue workers, Israeli Commandos. Then there are the highly educated professions. Doctors, research scientists. After that are the physical blue collar, "manly" professions...construction worker, lumberjack. I have had a crush forever on the lead singer of Rammstein, I think I've posted about him before but I don't really find rock stars per se sexy...just that particular individual. He's a VERY masculine man who just happened to fall into the music profession.
LittleTiger Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I was going to say it's the man that's sexy not the profession, but now Cee mentions it I think the 'sexiest profession' for me would be a photographer - especially one who photographs wildlife or the natural world. I haven't seen many of those on dating sites though!
EasyHeart Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Well, he's not REAL, but in the early years of HIMYM before I realized what an emotionally unavailable douche he is under that romantic exterior, Ted Mosby is precisely my type. I would laugh at his "Main" Lobster jokes and bad puns. Other sexy TV architects include Rick from Once and Again. And Matt Dillon's character in "There's Something About Mary". Oh, and none of you ladies have given the correct answer yet!!! Sheesh.
tigressA Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 And Matt Dillon's character in "There's Something About Mary". Oh, and none of you ladies have given the correct answer yet!!! Sheesh. What, a lawyer? Yeah right.
SteelWall Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Any profession a man feels confident and comfortable with! A proud (not cocky) confident comfortable guy is sexy!
Art_Critic Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Not a girl but to me it isn't the exact position that would/should matter it is whether or not they are happy doing it and if they can pay the bills.. I think women find desirable a man that is successful.. and that definition is broad.
