SueP Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 I'm with this great guy at the moment - we get on really well, he cares so much about me, really mature, checks up on how i am loads, springs surprise presents on me and so on. The trouble is I'm not sure of my feelings towards him - its my first real relationship and its getting on to 6 months now, but i'm increasingly feeling that Ive settled. Id feel a fool to lose him but there are a few things - I find the age difference slightly awkward (hes a few months younger than me), our futures just aren't compatable - he wants to go abroad once he finishes uni, I want to stay here, I feel slightly embarassed when we go out in public by his physical appearance, we have completely different career plans... Im also feeling increasingly curious about what it would be like to be in a relationship with someone else. I am, however, really fond of him, find a lot of his mannerisms cute, and have loads in common with him. It gets more complicated, though, cos hes told me he loves me already, from almost the beginning of the relationship, and he knows I probably don't care about him in the same way. I dont want to lie to reassure him, but i think the situation is affecting his self-confidence, and possibly i'm being the selfish one by keeping him from having a relationship with someone who will really all-out love him. I just want advice from people who know more about relationships, on whether peeps think the best thing for both of us would be for me to just give it time or possibly take more drastic action. moimeme Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 It sounds like this relationship is going nowhere. You listed too many negative feelings on your part for it to be salvageable. Things like I feel slightly embarassed when we go out in public by his physical appearance do not bode well for the relationship. Let him go so he can find someone who will truly appreciate him.
