Ex left me about 3 weeks ago after 2.5 years. She pretty much left me out of no where and claimed she had a hard time staying happy with me even though I did everything in the world for her. Regardless I have not heard from her till tonight. Today is my birthday and at 12am she wrote me a text saying

hey i know we ended things on bad terms but i didnt want this day to go by without saying happy birthday, i hope you have a good one.

now im sure this means absolutely nothing but what do you guys think?

It sucks when ex's do that. Ignore it dude. Seriously don't even respond. I'd just delete them anyway. You'll do more good focusing on yourself than pandering to someone elses breadcrumbs.

Remember she left you, she chose to take herself out of the equation, so grant her that and don't respond. As the dumper she doesn't deserve to have you in her life in any capacity unless it's to get back with you. But to do that she has to be on your door step, not some half arsed texting that's really about her alleviating some kind of guilt.

If you need to send her a message, send her a message of your moving on, by not responding.

You have a long history together. She's just acknowledging your birthday as a friend. Don't read anything into it other than that. Just thank her for her birthday wishes, and leave it at that.

Exactly! 2.5 years is a long time, I get that, but in my experience she's trying to friend you. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but if you do/keep responding to her you're essentially letting her back into your life in a way you most likely don't want.

Just my humbled advice.
